Video 5 up

For my hands and hanging glass, I really don't want any smaller.
Actually, more like the D300, the rear dials the same and the build looks to be strong, the D7100 looks a lot more dinky.

Top shutter speed dial ;-) just like old times...

Although I notice the max speed on it is only 1/4000 of a sec rather than 1/8000, hint perhaps that its internals are closer to the D600 than the D800/D4?
Possibly, but then it has an AF-ON button, indicates fast shooting akin to D300 /D700.

This is a pro camera. Especially if it has the 16MP sensor, for low light and fast processing, without making processor too expensive.

It would be nice if the aperture would show up in the viewfinder ala F series, by magnification window over the currently selected aperture. Currently, AI/S lenses require you to each time select the lens you will use before you get proper metering information in the digital display at the bottom. Sometimes there isn't time for that.

Nikon have needed an Ace up their sleeve for a while now. It was only two years ago that we had the tremendous buzz about the D800 but that quickly followed with suspect QC issues and then the problems seen with the D600. The 1 Series got slated for it's sensor size and can't compete with the current cream of the crop mirrorless systems from the other brands. So, what's the answer? Go back to your roots.

It's looking likely this will be the Ace if they can price it right and ensure any QC issues do not rear their head. I'm pretty sure I will be tempted but after having just purchased a D800E, I'll have to wait a while longer.

If it has over 7fps, it will be qite popular and expensive. maybe more than $3500. Really looks great so far.
5.5 fps w/o grip is the rumor, and there's no rumor about a grip. 5.5 fps is actually a lot, if buffer is good. That's more important than maybe 6-7 fps. We have been so spoiled ...

Nikon really knows how to turn us on... and make us sweat and squirm... and think of our plain-Jane D300 or 5D MkII girlfriends as sack-cloth nothings... yes, us bumpkins from Peoria will melt by the time this ad campaign comes to completion! But when we learn the price of handling her curves (or lack thereof) and holding her intimately we will discover that she is waaaay out of our league and not for most of us... still we can enjoy the fantasy!

Anyone need a kidney? :o)

This is cool:

And the AF-ON is there as well, very nice. Likely the left top dial will have the ISO setting and something else (it has two levels). The SS dial seems to have a secondary control below it:

Good shooting and good luck
(after Ed Murrow)

I think Nikon has a winner here, I hope they have sufficient stock, and avoid the waiting list we had with the D800. I have a D800, but possible not much longer...

Might that be an interchangeable finder I see? Looks a little like the F3.
It does look like it could be given the shape. Theres one close up shot of the prism but its out of focus, to me though it doesn't look like theres any kind of gap that might suggest a removable finder.
I hope not, just a good big OVF that makes MF possible again. Otherwise price could go through the roof.

Which I think is better for FF lenses in general, especially fast zooms and premium primes.

Having seen these latest pictures it clearly has a high build quality, just like the FM/FA, and probably a lot of careful hand assembly in Nikon's main Japanese plant. That is not going to come cheap, anyone thinking about £2,500 or less is indulging in wishful thinking. This is a very high quality camera, containing the D4 sensor, built up to a standard and not down to a price point.

From the beginning I have believed that this camera is not aimed at the mass market; but at those photographers who have used Nikon equipment for a considerable period of time, and have kept their collection of manual focus lenses in hopes of a camera like this being produced one day. That day is now here and they will pay the price asked for it.

On the subject of price my estimate is that it will be priced above £2,500 in the UK and I think that the realistic price level is £3,000. As my father used to say "It is impossible to buy a Rolls Royce at Ford prices"

I think the old F3 only did 5.6 (with fresh batteries) so 5.5 will be plenty. Also it looks like it's got a button to lock up the mirror so a few lenses that require that (a few older Nikon ones but also the Nikon F mount version of the Cosina Voigtlander 12mm 5.6 required that) can be used. The "unidentified" button on the composite circulating elsewhere is in the position where the mirror lock button is located on F cameras.

I'm liking this more and more. Though I would miss a vertical grip, I'd get over that.

Yes, a very good body, probably coming in around 2,500. Definitely better than the D610.

And for some a choice moreso than the D800.

The 16MP sensor should keep it below D800 cost though ?).

So, pricing between the two. If it were D600 pricing, wont get any D610's sold.
I think there's room for both to exist at a similar price. The D610 still has substantially higher resolution and the physical control scheme won't appeal to everyone.

If the rumored price of $3k is true I can't see this selling tons. It would need to be priced between the D610 and D800. It also has no video which further cuts the potential audience. I'm all for more controls, but I had expected a body near the size of an FM2.
