Gold contacts? Is that new? None of my L lenses, old or recent, have gold contacts....
They are gold colored and presumably gold plated for corrosion resistance? All of my L lens look like this. They look too shiny to be a copper but I suppose that is possible. Gold plated electrical contacts are commonplace.
But back to topic, I suppose my expectations might be too high but when I purchase a new lens at retail price from an authorized dealer I expect to get a new lens. Not a demo or refurbished lens or a lens that somebody used and then returned. Marks of use mean the lens could be any of the above, no way for me to know.
I am sure Adorama would take take the lens back and send me another if I decide to take this path. As I stated, the lens looks new (other than the contacts and more dust than I recall seeing on my other new L lens) and appears to function fine (with the few pics I took yesterday) so I will probably just keep it and spare myself the hassle of having to pack it up and ship it back. But I think open box lens that have had some use should be advertised as such (perhaps with a slight discount). I personally feel more comfortable paying a bit extra for a new lens that has not been touched since it was manufactured.
