Hello,

I am a newbie photographer. I have the kit (18-55) lense and it does the job well, however I'm having a hard time using it on close up macro shots on 18mm 3.5. It just can't focus really well. I also do a lot of indoor/low light photography usually portraits and I have to bump up the ISO to around 1600 to make a decent shot. I'm more into portraits and night photography aswell as well-lit scale model photography.

I'm thinking of these 2 lenses:

SEL35F18

SEL18200

which one is for me? Is the 18-200 capable of what the prime SEL35F18 can do? like produce great bokeh

I don't know much about the 35mm lens, but I'm a big fan of the SEL50F18, particularly for indoor portrait work. I love the bokeh on that lens.

All lenses have a minimum focus distance, meaning you cant get closer than this distance to the subject & still be able to focus. For the 18-55 that is about 30cm or so.

For macro you need a macro specific lens like the Sony E 30f35M, then you can get much closer (as in 1-2 cm)

Both the Sony E 50f1.8 & 35f1.8 are superb lenses. You cant go wrong with either one.

I havent used the 18-200 but everyone says its very nice. To produce good bokeh you need a lens with aperture f2.8 or wider, preferably f2 or f1.8 - however you can achieve the same with a zoom lens by getting as close as possible to the subject & having the background far away.

Have a search on Flickr for these lenses & see how you like the result of each.

I would think that for macro, you should be okay with manual focus. Why not just find a cheap legacy lens with adapter?
