Buy Sony A7 or A99?

This year i bought a lot of photografic accessories.

I split my set in 2 system this year:

1 Wedding/Cerimony with A77 sigma 35mm, sony 50mm dt , 16-50 , sigma 70-200 mm, 85mm samyang MF and metz 58 af1

2 Daily/light photo nex 6 with 16-50 (For Daylight) 16mm , 35mm dt with LEA1 and SEL 50mm 1.8 (This lenses for night because i use light ambient and flash pop-up without metz or others external flash)

I need only a 24mm and a 50mm primes for complete my FF A set for cerimonial and wedding events. (I will make another topic for this question )

Now Sony make me happy with A7 and A7r but i love more A7 because 36mpx are very very fat to work and print.

The problem is : what FF take? The a7 or wait and buy A99?

For A7 :

PROS

i love the light body (I remember my old OM1)

price (max 1500€ )

Less Noise then A99

CONS

i need LEA3 (I think LEA4 is too big) to use my lens

No stabilization

For A99

PROS: i can use my lens with full AF and Stabilitation

CONS

Body big and heavy = i will use it rarely and only for cerimony

More expensive (2300-2500€)

Mirror SLt and dust

You need to wait until next year , then you might have more choice.

Do you think next year we will have new FF slt?

I think Sony will need to make a camera that can replace the A99 for pro shooters, although it could be a while off. Usually the release cycle on those cameras is about 4 or 5 years and A99 has only been out 1 year.

For commercial work, I have found generally people expect to see BIG cameras or they don't think they are getting their money's worth. Maybe worth considering that in the PROs for the A99?

Nobody can tell you what to buy! You are the only one who can. You can tell what is most important to you. For som weight and size is more important then IBIS. For others it is just the other way.... For some the fast focussing is more important others buy the LA-EA4 adapter for that. Some For some the large lens choice is important, others tell that legacy lenses fit on the A7 and offer so much more lenses....

Personaly I think those are both very nice cameras, for me the A7 is the better choice, but I have to wait unil I can hold it in my hands to see. Oh and I have to finde somewhere $2000 for the body and kitlens...

I want your opinions: why for you A7 is better choice?

The Sony A3000, a very cheap mock-DSLR costs only $400 with lens but would be looked upon by the paying public as a "real" camera.

for me 24 MP is overkill. I see no reason why I should go for the 36 MP camera and pay more for pixels I don't need. Up until now I see no reason for more pixels tnen there in my Nex 5...

Also the extra OSPDF and Electronic front shutterare more apealling to me.

Like the above poster mentioned. 36mp is overkill for a LOT of people. I own a 5d MKII, and it's 22mp has been more then enough for me. Ive done 50" prints that look great with it. Im curious how much difference I would see at 36....

Either way, I ordered the A7 because LIFE IS SHORT. I spend money on stuff I enjoy, and I make concessions in other parts of my life so that I can enjoy my toys. Waiting around for new products with more features in this short life doesnt interest me

If you believe SAR site, there will be a FF A-mount camera in the first half of 2014. I think they will, because A7(r) doesn't address many issues you raised and you are not alone.

I don't know where the 4-5 years coming from. Let's count: A900 in 2008, A850 in 2009, A99 in 2012 -- Sony released 3 FF cameras in 5 years. So another A-mount FF is due, moreover Sony is ready to remove mirror starting a new series, so they simply must release another high grade FF A-mount camera.

What about no steady shot or stabilization in the A7 and A7R or any of the lensisn't that a problem?

No Steadyshotis a problem with some focal range after 85mm (Last event i shot at 1/100 with 70-200 sigma hsm at focal between 135-200)

All zoom lenses for the A7 (r) have OSS, so I see no problem there. We may see some OSSprimes in the future too, who knows?

Then IS is a very nice, but often overrated feature. ait gives you about 2 stops extra, but only with static subjects. So it is very nice to have then, but you can use other ways to stabilize your camera in those situations. And it is a given truth that wide angle lenses need IS less then telelenses.

Only with video IS is important all the time and with all lenses.

I have last doubt between:
50mm zeiss a mount -> next year 24-70 zeiss/tamron or A99/a9x=only A mount FF body forever
Sony a7 +lea3/4 ( i have some doubt) and convert to FE forever -> next month 24-70 f4
(At moment i can use a7 without crop with old 24-70 sigma, 70-200 hsm, 35mm sigma and 85mm samyang + old om1 lens with nex adapter as 50mm 1.8 and 135 3.5)

Now i love the lightest, prices and FF body of sony a7 (it remember me my old OM1)

I decided to shot for family/friends batism and wedding only. I think rarely sports, teather and other.
For walkround i will continue to use nex-6 because low price , low sensor and cheap lens (i have 16mm 50mm oss and 30mm macro+lea1).
I think to sell a77 + 50mm dt+ 16-50 for return some money because i hate have dslr collection ( i have backuped nex 5, a100 and a700).

I found christmas offerta with A99 at 1730€ : Can be a beautiful offer or i waitsuccessor??

Ok try to go FF tomorrow because small DOF is wonderful for portrait !! (Today i checked and loved my last photo with samyang 85mm 1.4 and 35mm 1.4 sigma).
NOW i have a big doubt.
I make the idea that for walkround i go definetly with nex 6.

For wedding or family event is the problem.
I found that in the last year i used my A77 only for 1 wedding, 1 batism and other 2-3 events because i move with tamarac velocity 9 and my full equipment (about 4-5 kg of lens and body).

Now i made a count and i find this conclusion:
A99 weight is 200gr + then a77
I will need change 16-50 with 24-70 tamron (zeiss is expensive) = other 300gr.
A99 more big than the A77
Gps ( a7 no)
Ibis (a7 only with FE zoom)
Can use fat and long lens as my sigma 70-200.
Total= more weight then actually equipment =use it only few times but a complete system

The A7 instead:
Near 500gr = more light than a99 (near 50%)
More thin than a99
WIFI/NFC (A99 NO)
Less noise than A99 (without LEa4)
More movement speed
More light lens but more closed (24-70 fe is F4!!= poor dof than a 24-70 2.8).
Can use both mount (A Aand E).
Total = i will return to my old lovely school with an Om1's copy but i will find a similar of my nex 6 and i haven't fast lens (less F2.8) without lea4 .

So what do you think is best choice for the my 5-6 events?
Buy a camera that i can use more often (a7) or another big camera for few events?
