Firstly, thanks to everyone who contributed to one of my earlier posts to help me decide to buy this camera. I got the single lens kit with the 18-55mm lens. I also bought the 50-200mm lens as I found it on sale super cheap. I'd like to buy one prime lens too. I've been looking at the 30mm, would anyone recommend it? It'll just be for general use for times I don't want to carry all the lenses around. Also, does anyone know of any good camera stores in Sydney, as I'll be visiting there soon.
Thanks!

Congrats on your purchase, you bought a fine camera. As for your lens choice either the 30mm or 45mm would be excellent and not overly pricey. Don't forget to post some images!

I own the the 30mm and i absolutely love it, one of my favorite lenses. The sharpness it really good already from f2, The bokeh is nice but the foreground can be a bit harsh(but not bad compared to the average). It's one of the few lenses i can recommend for everyone, its sharp, small, pretty good aparture, low aberrations, low vignetting.

30mm is a more generally useful focal length. Lens is also much smaller and much more easily jacket-pocketable (45mm will fit in a loose jacket pocket, but it's tight).

45mm is much faster autofocus and useful for catching kids running around outside. It's much nicer for portraits but a bit too long for general everyday use.

Get 'em both ;) They split time on my camera and take the majority of the shots . (but I'd get the 30mm first). I've also got the 16mm, 85mm (I love it but don't really *need* it), and both 20-50 and 18-55, the zooms spend very little time on my camera. I was really happy on a recent trip with just the 16 and 30 and I'm getting quick at swapping. BUT, I now have some crap on my sensor that I'm trying to get rid of, so there are advantages to minimizing all the swapping.

I like the 30mm a lot, fov of 45mm is a nice standard.

If you read the review and believe in them the 30mm is one of the best primes among the ones available.

Another new owner of the nx300 here, i found a great deal here in Greece
NX300 with 18-55 kit lens at 369 euros, i manage to sell my old nx1000 and the total cost of the upgrade was only 130 euros and i could not resist at that price.

So far it seams better than my previous nx1000 in all terms, i will go out for my first photoshop with it and i will be back with feedback.

Wow, this is the craziest price I ever heard for a nx300! I paid 200€ more 6 months ago...

Hi I go to Greece so where was that crazy offer? Tom

I bought mine from here

http://galaiosphoto.gr/product_info.php?products_id=4278

The price 2 weeks ago was 599 euros and when it came down to 399 i asked them if we could do something better since i already have some lenses and i do not need the kit lens, so instead i could buy only the body. They reply me that they could not do something like that but they could give me the nx300 with the kit lens at the price of 369 euros.

This is a crazy price indeed.

--Congratulations you will find the 300 to be very capable of very fine images. Mine continues to amaze me and this is shooting along side of a FF Canon 6D.

I have the 45mm and find it to be a great lowlight performer. The focal length is just too long for much of what I shoot so it does not stay on the camera very much. I would wait for the new 30mm to be introduced. If it is really great , buy it and if it is only a minor improvement it will still drive the price down of the current 30mm.

As with many things in life a great photograph has strong appeal for what is NOT in the picture.

I got the 30mm, I'm happy with it so far. I'm not very good at photography so just reading up on a few things and learning how to use the nx300. I have the 18-55mm kit lens, the 50-200mm and the 30mm now. this combination is working well for me at the moment, as I am in New Zealand on a holiday. I'll post some photos once I'm a bit more confident with my abilities! =)

Pleased you are enjoying the NX300! I also purchased the same combination some months ago. I'd call myself an enthusiastic novice who enjoys reading the posts here. Seems there are a number of people commenting on the quality of my pictures (jpeg only and mostly auto), I can assure you that has never happened before!! I'm in Canada on holidays and enjoying learning with the NX300.

I would recommend a wide lens like the nx 16/f2.4 for the great landscapes in New Zealand. Others might recommend the NX 12-24mm which is more expensive.
