hi all,

i hope this is going to be the last thread i'm going to start regarding me sweating over small issues, i'm actually embarrassed to start another one and hope you guys aren't annoyed...:-)

here's the post highlighting this issue, although nothing to do with the thread.

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/52026309

basically, it's the "loose control wheel" issue. the buttons and wheel on my RX1R is functioning as it should, just that the wheel is a little loose and doesn't have a firm feeling to it. when i tap on the wheel, it make some clicking sound, and even if i don't hear it, my finger can feel the wheel isn't really firm. this make the experience using the camera felt a little cheap, otherwise everything is solid and beautiful, including my previous threads on the aperture ring and focus ring which turned out to be false alarm.

compared to the only demo unit i tried, which is the original RX1, has firm feeling to it although i didn't pay attention to it and vaguely remembered it, but i'm certain that it wasn't "clicky". interesting to note that, it seems to have less tactile feedback on the four direction button, not mushy as it's firm, just doesn't have apparent "click" when being pressed.

so, anyone else experienced the same thing?

again, i hope this is false alarm and just within acceptable range of assembly variant and not a symptom of the part going to fail soon. i've read quite a few similar issues on the RX100 (loose OK/center button) and NEX (clicky wheel).

PS: i do take photos with this camera, not display it like a jewelry, and press on the control wheel very often to notice this. as much as i enjoy the camera, i don't want it to be opened by technicians too soon. when i spend a lot on this camera i'm expecting it to last me at least the next few years, there's really nothing from this camera that i wanted more. :-)

I notice this too, when touching the wheel lightly. I've essentially chosen to ignore it - it's not a big click, but a quiet and almost "sticky" click. It'll be due to the contacts beneath not being stuck down or something.

arigatou gozaimasu!

so there's another RX1 with such phenomenon, so seems like a common phenomenon. also after extensive search, seems like nobody actually experienced failed control wheel yet. i guess it's part of the design, as long as it doesn't fail easily then it's reassuring enough for me.

thanks again Martin! love your photography works! :)

Keep in mind the dials on the back of the RX1 and RX100 use thin flexible circuit board with very small mechanical press buttons and very little tolerance. What you are hearing sometimes is the thin circuit board material moving and maybe having a slight amount of surface tension with other parts causing some clicking sound as it touches etc. Ive owned all kinds of gadgets from GPS receivers to DSLrs that sometimes exhibit this. It may get a little better or a little worse over time. Ive seen remote controls do this too. Your camera is fine enjoy it.

I remember my Nikon D800 thumb dial on the back did this esp when pushing it to the right.
