E-M1 from B&H Update

Spoke to BH today. was told that there are no guarantees of course, but they have a shipment in progress from Manufacturer to them that should be at their warehouse this week (again no guarantees) and that my order is early enough that should be fulfilled in the first batch (again no guarantees). They dont want to commit to anything of course, but that's what I got.

...and I too may be doing a bit of photo trekking later this month. If my E-M1 arrives before then I may take it along, but it'll be in addition to the E-M5 'cuz pic-taking will play a big role and in such cases I prefer to work with gear I already know well.

I just noticed that Amazon site says "You save $100.99" on the E-M1 page, even though they are selling it for $1,399, the same price as everyone else. I believe it was announced at $1,399, as well.

I will no longer do business with Amazon because of their flagrant misrepresentation of what they claim as "discounted prices". They are the only retailer representing the prices as $100 MORE THAN EVERYONE ELSE, including the Olympus Store ! I have brought this to their attention on numerous items yet they continue this practice, which is deceptive at best!!!

Vote with your wallet!!!

Well, I do compare prices and have not seen this. Amazon usually, but not always, has the lowest price (even if others have that price too), and I have not found them to be misleading.

There used to be a department store, Korvettes (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._J._Korvette ) that, if I remember correctly, was once sued by the gov't for officially raising prices and then putting up "SALE!" signs and selling the thing for exactly the same price that didn't attract consumers before. After several weeks the sale would end and the price would return to what it always sold for, and the "SALE!" signs would be replaced by "PRICE DROP!" signs. The government took exception to this practice, I guess as misleading advertising. I do note that the wikipedia article does not mention this. Perhaps it wasn't that important in their history.

Anyway, if Amazon is claiming "Save $100!" and it really is misleading, I feel certain the government would be willing to sue them (on our behalf, of course) and if they win get some tremendous settlement.

One or more items from this purchase are still out of stock as we haven't
yet received the merchandise from our supplier.

I just called Adorama and the rep said "a week or two".

I just called Olympus and the rep said "the middle of October".
In situations like this -- if you really want to get a camera quickly -- it's often the case that the best strategy is to find a brick-and-mortar dealer. They nearly always receive cameras at the same time as the bigger dealers but they frequently don't have big preorder lists.

Best strategy is to go to the Olympus web site and use their dealer locator (I'm assuming they have one), then start calling around. I assume from your handle that you're in Florida; I'd start with dealers in the Southeast and go from there.

I very much appreciate the helpful advice.

Thanks to a kind member of this forum my E-M1 will be here tomorrow so I can practice this weekend in preparation for my trip next week. :-)

When I ordered from B&H just about a week ago it still said Oct. 4 release date. Of course they have no control over the manufacturer though. Wondering if anyone is seeing any movement from B&H on these cameras yet. Local brick and mortar store had none and has no estimated eta.

I cancelled my order from B&H. By the way their computer system was down yesterday and that messed up their ordering system, they apologized to me and explained that their system was down etc. etc.

I ordered from B&H and will stay with my order. They indicate when something is Backordered or In Stock, they have always been honest about products when I have phoned them, they ship very quickly when items are in stock, and they took back my first E5 with a large number of shutter activations when I discovered a focus problems in certain lighting conditions. I typically do not order photographic equipment from Amazon if I am in any hurry since their delivery times are very inconsistent. I just got a SDHC card from them after 18 days, because the first was lost by the shipper and the second was sitting in some warehouse until I sent a second email about it. Adorama does not indicate whether items are in stock (except for new products) until you order them. I got tired of ordering products only to find out they were not in stock after I ordered.

that's not about them lying - it is about that we have people receiving cameras from every shop, except B&H... and Adorama even giving 4% reward cash towards future purchases now... nothing personal, but B&H is no longer a place to shop for new releases.

and they (adorama), as we saw here, at least got and shipped some E-M1 cameras - some even on Sunday (when B&H was still continuing to rest undisturbed)

Do we know for sure that B&H is the only shop that has not shipped at all?

for whatever reason we heard about others, even obscure shops, and nobody claims a score from B&H, which is not a small shop... so what happened ?

I'm also waiting on an update on my September 16th order from B&H.

I wish they would post some sort of information. Tell us it'll definitely ship by the 14th or something.

If you know the E-M5 well, there's no risk in taking the E-M1. The day my E-M1 arrived, I stuck my 15 month old E-M5 in the back of a drawer and switched to the E-M1, with no problems, and have even experimented with one of the new features, HDR. The noise is way below what the E-M5 gave me. I'm amazed. Took some ISO3200's today and was shocked by how little noise reduction was required to make it disappear.

I see that B&H is now quoting availability at the end of October, changed from October 14. Wondering if anybody has received an E-M1 from B&H yet or has any updated info?

Something isn't quite right. Cut and paste from the B&H E-M1 page" End of October 2020". Seven years strikes me as a bit of a long wait. :-D

I had checked the site yesterday and there was no date so that is a very recent change.
