Thankss a lot, I actually don't live in the mountains so I miss them as much as you do. I live in the "Outaouais" area that is also part of the gallery.

Mountains are where I should live.
and not only am i jealous of your photographic skills, but also
your breathtaking surroundings! i used to live near the rockies in
colorado (unfortunately, before my photography days) and sure do
miss those mountains!

Yeah - don't ask. lol

I'd just remind him that although photography can be expensive, it's not as expensive as many other hobbies, such as shopping, antiquing....

Just tell him you're going to get a film SLR. Then tell him the price of the film and developing.

Have him call me. :-)
I probably should have waited until he was fully awake. . . but it
went something like this.

"I WANT a new camera." silence
"I could probably get a used 707 or 717 to hold me over." silence
"but we already have one in the house. And Sarah will need a dslr
for art school." laughter
"well I could get a 10D now, and she could borrow it, and it she
gets accepted to art school next year I could gift it to her."
laughter
silence

Any suggestions?????? lol

getting the spouse used to the idea is a first step in the right direction.

i've already been planting ideas about the upgrade from the 717 that we'll need to make once we have another baby (although we'll have less time for as many pictures as our first, at least they'll be higher quality).

if our spouses read this forum . . . lol.

Congratulations on your purchase. I've enjoyed your photos and look forward to seeing ones taken with your new camera.

Your horse photo is particularly beautiful -- the angle really shows off the beauty of the animal yet I can't remember ever seeing a horse photographed from this angle before.

Wow, your memory shocks me! I had even forgotten about that shot and will have to make sure that I haven't lost it.

Very nice comment to hear.

Thanks, Andrew!!! Mine too is on its way from B&H.

Nancy
I called B&H yesterday afternoon and they had just received a boat
load of cameras. They were expected to fly out of the warehouse so
I'd call as fast as possible. It was $1499USD.
Where did you order your 10d from? I've got one ordered at
Ritz.com and they don't expect a shipment in until the second week
of June to fill backorders.

I've already received the 28-135IS lens and a 512 MB CP card and
can't wait.

Nancy
I know that this isn't the place to mention it but I finally made
the DSLR plunge. I ordered a 10D tonight and will be getting it
early next week.

I HAD to tell somebody....

I told Dawn soon after I started with photography that she should expect me to buy one new camera each year. Well, I've had my 707 for 1.5 years now......

Say this:

"But Steve, with this camera Sarah will be able to make so much extra money while at college that we might not even have to pay for tuition!"

That'll work for Steve, but then you'll have to deal with Sarah.

But the antiquing point is a good one. I used to be an avid antiquer and gave that up (although I still get pains) when I took up photography (of course there was the quitting of the job in there somewhere too . . . lol)

Ya know another good point is the midlife crisis. A dslr sure beats some other avenues people find to navigate the midlife thing . . . lol

Cindy, for the longest time I thought (from your portraits in the STF gallery) that you and Sarah were sisters who were fairly close in age. Surely midlife crisis is too far away as an excuse? As for me, I'm still a while away, and I don't know what I'll use that excuse for, but surely it'll be something big. ;)

When you get it and a lens..... put it in continuous mode and AI servo. Stand in front of a mirror and hold the shutter button down until it stops firing and the buffer starts to regenerate.

At that point look into the mirror and see the big silly grin you will have on your face ;-)

You might miss the excellent out of camera image from the 717 but after you get to know the 10D better you will get" knock your socks off" images and be hooked on all the benefits of a dslr.

Congratulations on your purchase. It looks like the finest DSLR currently available for less than $2000.

I'd love to see some comparison shots between the F7x7 and the 10D.

What lenses do you have for the 10D?
