Share with us you Best Flower shot.

Ruan,

Here's a photo I may call "Simplicitiy".

Simplicity...because its a simple photo of a simple flower...just a painting put on a yellow wall...its the "Red Hungarian Poppy"...taken in a restaurant with max zoom while waiting for the waiter. How do you All like it?

P.S.: I'm crossing my fingers for you, Ruan, hope your thread will again reach the wonderful feeling of the ceiling of 150 posts... very soon! :-))))

Cheers, Feri

Hi Feri,

Thanks for remembering my last 150 posts thread on "Your best shots" last year. I am already very happy with current willingness of our Minolta friends to share their flower photos here.

I like your idea of "Simplicity". But for such photo to succeed I think we need to define the border well. If the background color is too plain or too light, it may merge with the media background. The other is to balance the negative space.

To define the border you can do two things - one to put a frame round the photo and two to place a secondary object at one of the farther corner. For example at the resturant you may want to include a small portion of the corner of a table (with a glass of wine?). I am sure you will come out with much better ideas.
The following are just samples:

Hello

Heres one of the first pictures i took with my 7Hi i bought a couple of weeks ago, didnt know i caught the bee in mid-flight till i loaded the pic onto my camera, was a ncie bonus. I'll admit I did have to sharpen the bee very very slightly with PS.

My first attempt at posting a picture, hope it works...

http://mikespics.fotopic.net/photo.php?id=554143

Got a couple more flower shots(amongst other stuff) on my new album here : http://mikespics.fotopic.net/

Mike.

Damn, i had hoped to embed the actual picture rather than just the link. I even searched previous posts to find how to do it. Back to the drawing board...

Is there a trick to it other than just copying the page link into the post, or maybe photopic.net just wont let me do it??

This has been a most enjoyable thread to follow - DPreview's Minolta Photographers are a most accomplished crowd and it is so good to see interesting new ideas!
Let me share a more unusual picture of a poppy just about to be 'born'.

There are some great photographers in the Minolta forum. The flower photographs are beautiful. I've learned a lot by reading your posts over the last few weeks that I've had my 7i. Getting good closeups of flowers has been difficult for me, but yesterday I took one that I'm happy with. The only touch-up has been adjusting brightness and contrast in Paint Shop Pro, and a little cropping. It was taken without a flash, on aperature priority setting.

This is the original photo, with the exif information intact. I would appreciate any advice on what I can do to take better photos with the camera.

Hi Mike,
I wonder what's the chance of catching a bee in flight with a digital camera.
I even have trouble catching a bird in flight.

The flower was well exposed, the bee was a bit burred but it was expected since it was in flight, the background was not too busy. It's definitely a keeper. I think your picture deserved a better presentation, so I have it edited with a frame:

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mike,
I tried to embed your photo at photopic.net and it was not possible.
I use http://www.photoshare.co.nz . And it works.

Hi John,
I alway enjoy looking at your pictures which were so varied in ideas.
What an appropriate title too! I especially like the composition of Poppy2.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Jackie,

You did very well with your white flower. If you want to improve it a bit more; try removing the bud at the top left hand corner. Apart that from that you've got a great picture already.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Paolo,

It seem that you have to donate something to Pbase before they allow you to directly on to your post.

To post your picture here, you right click and copy the URL from the properties. If you cannot see this flower from your gallery, then you are not allowed to do it: otherwise you should be able to:

Ciao e grazie!

I think this is one of my best taken todate. What about you?

Nice!! thankyou for the framing job. i discovered photoshare yesterday due to somebody else posting about it and i signed up for a trial membership because me and Photoshare both live in New Zealand, maybe my pics will get there quicker with less virtual road to travel? Shall have to load up some pics after work today maybe.

Thanks for the comments
Mike.

Thank you Raymond and Sadie. I don't think they're as good as your photos, but I do try to find different angles on everyday subjects. You know.. we would never be doing all this experimentation with film!

John.
