The people in Open Talk are probably going (when they see the moved thread), who's this DavidP? Must be a newbie ;) I must say I'm very surprised to read about this. I think you are one of the more helpful and interesting posters in this forum.

DSLR that got moved to Off Topic. Some were ones I started.
Some were ones others had started (whether I replied to them or
not).

There were clearly LOTS of other OT threads that didn't get moved.
I suspect Phil got tired of moving them. ;)

At any rate, if you can't find a topic that you KNOW used to be
here, check Open Talk. Yes, even the Espon 2200 thread got moved
there, isntead of to Printers.

Maybe the name of this forum should just be changed..
to.. "Canon DSLR or Whatever".. and then another could be for Canon SLR ..

and was lobbied back again. I wouldn't worry about it. He isn't going anywhere permanently.....
 
it was over a printer post. Someone complained to Phil that his post was off topic. I find this incredible. Look at all the off topic posts on this forum that have nothing to do with a Dslr. I doubt that any of those posters were threatened with being banned.

I don't know if it was the Epson 2200 message or not. Or if it was because somebody complained (seems reasonable, though).

What I do know is that Phil moved about 20 threads into Open Talk (including that one about the printer). Some of which I started, some of which I didn't start. Heck, a few I didn't even reply to!

But, I think you're right. There hasn't seemed to be much of a decrease in OT posts here. LOL.

I have no idea if Phil warned others via a personal email or not. He did post a "reminder" message here, though, about it. Probably on page 20 by now. ;)

I agree with you 100% Doug. There's obviously a few in here, like anywhere else in life that have nothing better to do than complain about what amounts to basically nothing. They like to feel that they can control things because I think in their personal or business life someone is controlling them and they don't have the gonads to do anything about it. I guess they would be classified as wimpy or wussy types. Just MHO of course. Much ado about nothing.

What did the post on the printer contain that was so offensive? I think I read it, and never noticed anything. From what I remember DavidP was just saying how much the printer kicked butt...

There may be a lot more to this dispute than I know about, but just going from this thread I agree with Kiran that giving a descriptive title is better than "how about this???" I can't figure out why people are jumping all over him... Again, there may be more of a fued than I know about...

UncleMikey's suggestion above that you can just use the search feature is off too because the first thing you do after searching is look at the titles to see which one looks like the best shot at getting an answer. A good title just makes sense.

Finally, I don't care if there is a printer thread in the Canon SLR forum because I am much more interested in this forums opinions of all aspects of digital photography than any other sub-groups.

wacky thread titles and see how many other people you pi$$ off,

we do have lots of people here now. Its not just you anymore, who
may be part of the in group that gets to decide how things are run.

Now I'm curious. Exactly what did you say to Phil? "Ban this guy
cause he's trying to take the forum over by just asking people to
post an appropriate title?" Whatever happened to Phil knows best,
its his forum. Looks like he moved David's thread and everything
else remains intact. So exactly who was in the wrong here buddy?
(and just incase anyone asks, I didn't even think david was in teh
wrong. all i wanted was a move to better thread titles)

I do have to commend you on your title though. It was very
accurate and descriptive. Looks like my suggestions are helping.

There was nothing "offensive" in any of the 20 or so threads that Phil moved to Open Talk. (Shouldn't the 2200 thread have gone to Printers, though? lol).

They were simply "off topic" to Canon DSLR.

The reason he wants less OT posts here is to keep threads from whizzing by so quickly.

I added the signature line for a few reasons. One was simply to explain why you won't find any more OT posts started by me in this area. If I do start any, they'll be elsewhere. So, I guess you'll have to start looking elsewhere.

Which is why I added the "gonna join me?" at the end of the new sig.

Hey, the sig might actually get people to post in the right place, huh?

If a post is off topic, moving it seems appropriate if anything is to be done at all.

Banning seems a bit wierd though. You'd think that would be reserved for those people who post off topic messages that also happen to be very offensive...

Actually, I feel for Phil that he has to respond to (fill in the descriptive word) that complain about such trivial things. I'm sure he has much more important thing to do.

Thats a absurd situation ...the amount of moronic newbies in here since the 10D and their stupid off topic idiot posts has driven this forum to the depths of mediocrity ...experienced photographers (as opposed to experienced equipment junkies) who are prepared to post in this now difficult enviroment are fewer and fewer ...the established posters here who have been here for many years such as David P should be protected rather then chastised ....I didn't think his post was off topic anyhow... whoever complained should be drummed out of here with a dunces hat on.
David P is a Canon SLR Forum Icon and should be afforded more respect.
