So let me see if I've got this right.
In a nutshell: you keep paying or the software stops working until you pay again.
The applications still live on your PC/Mac. It essentially works as a re-activation procedure every 30 days. Your files still on your own computer. You don't need a net connection to use it, onlyto validate/activate every 30 days.

There may be some "cloud" features which means you'll be able to store or share photos online (kinda like the gallery here does with JPG, but we'll add lots of fancy marketing).
If you don't upgrade to this model, forget processing RAW images with ACR from new cameras, and forget any new features.
I know I'll be shouted down for this, but here's how I read the Creative Cloud proposition:
"We promise to milk every last cent we think we can get away with, and promise you nothing except that you can keep paying. Meanwhile you'll run your application as long as we allow you to and you follow our rules. We will continue this until our product has no worth and everyone has cancelled their subscription."
Assuming their security doesn't become foolproof and the security isn't broken, this won't affect pirates. It'll annoy the hell out of honest users. Those that can find compatible apps will use it on and off, or give up after a while and use a 3rd party app to open the files (until/unless they lock down the format as well).
You can probably guess I'm not interested. I would be surprised if this model works out for them, but then again I remember when bottled water took off I thought "who the hell would pay for that when you can get it for next to nothing from a tap" and was unpleasantly surprised. Clearly I'm not a good predictor for what people will buy or put up with.
