As a user of the older G10/11, I had trouble with the lens cap shutter scratching the lens. Has Canon addressed this design flaw and fixed it for the G15 and G16? Thanks for any help.

I have had a g12 for almost two years now and have had no lens scrath problems.
Rule #1 - Don't pick up, hold or carry the camera in a way that would cause pressure on the lens leaves.
Rule #2 Don't forget Rule #1 and any such problem will be greatly reduced.

You answered my question so I will wait on delivery of the P7800 to see if it is all I hoped for.
Thanks again....Dan
Please post your P7800 impressions on the Nikon Coolpix forum when you get it. I will keep my G12 until give me a 28-200.
I have the RX-100 as well as the G15 (which is my latest one acquired) ...Dan Hudson wrote:
Thanks for your answers. I have been through the lens scratch problem with a brand new G10/11 camera. Don't need that anymore or the extra effort to protect the so called lens protectors. Will just stay away from the G series. I submitted the question about self lens scratching because if I was not satisfied with my purchase of the Nikon P7800, I might again seek a G series camera. You answered my question so I will wait on delivery of the P7800 to see if it is all I hoped for. I guess the next step will be a Sony RX100. Not my first choice, though. Thanks again....Dan
