Picture of G5

Not sure if this is actual or not. If it is, then there may at
least be some price pressure on the G3. With what appears to be an
incremental upgrade, the G3 may be the way to go if there are no
eye-popping upgrades in the next G series camera.
...except that there are reports that some stores are sold out of the G3 and don't expect any more deliveries.

Hey! That will make my G3 a collectors' item! Great!

hahaha how jaded we become. Remember back in the day when
it was big news that they cracked the 1mp barrier [snip]
Imagine if just 8 months later they had introduced a 2mp
camera...hahahahh.. no.. that took a full 10 or 12 months
And today we scoff at this achievment which canon seemes poised to
accomplish yet again. [snip] We ask too much.
Ok hands up guilty and this is the standard law of diminishing returns. Tt is just that we've all been spoilt with processor speeds doubling rather than increasing linearly as mega pixels have been doing.

I'm kinda hoping that we'll be proved half wrong and there will be other tweaks too (cf Minolta 7i & 7Hi).

darren.

isn't it amazing that people are probably buying this camera that canon hasn't even released yet. i wonder if it's a g3 with the 3 scratched off of it. if anyone ever ordered it. or if they are taking orders but the camera is on "backorder due to popularity". all very silly, and it always pays to do the research.

people want the camera or whatever to look different from the last model. it should have different functions, etc. but the model itself should look a little more different, not just the number in the corner. whatever happened to the g4?

---Mike Savad
It's very plausible. Canon painted the S45 black and put a 5MP
sensor in it (= S50). It seems quite likely they'd do the same
with the G3. In fact, it would be surprising if they didn't.

a new model doesn't work that way. between the g2 and the g3, they changed the sizes of things - such as how the tub mounts on. you needed new hardware. i'm sure this is the same case, they want you to buy there stuff so they modify small things. if there were any real word on it, it would be announced. canon is fairly slow when it comes to announcing anything new.

the g2 black was never meant to be anything other then a black camera. it was never claimed to be anything better then the silver one.

Basically the G5 is what the black G2 was ... the same camera with
a little change and in black. Here the change is bigger as they put
the 5mp sensor in.

I've heard dat "4" means "death" in japanese and chinese.

That's way they don't release a G4 or buildings have a "4th floor" or rooms have number "4".

There is/was a Powermac G3, so I guess Canon doesn't care too much about a MAC with the same identity as their CAM...
They just forgot to spell it backwards as well ;-)
