Ok, here I go.

I got lucky taking pictures during the tornadoes that ripped through here a few weeks ago. Out of about 100 pictures, I happened to get this one decent shot. Then my wife woke up, discovered me outside with the camera and tripod, and made me stop. There's a little contrast tweaking done in Photoshop on this one, and a significant crop (the original was horizontal, and the lightning was on the extreme right of the frame).

The other pic I want to post is from last winter, it's just a pic of my wife and 12-month-old walking back to the house from the back yard. Honestly, this wouldn't have been much of a photo without the Photoshop work.

Looking for comments, criticism, or anything that can make me better at this.

Wow, guys, sorry the pics are sized so huge. I thought I was just posting links...I didn't realize the images would be embedded!

Is there a better way for me to post images here in the future?

The lightning shot is great! Was it a time exposure?

The big pictures are fine, remember they are still being served by a server other than dpreview.

I wish I new now what I didn't know then.

Hey, Todd, thanks for sharing. Comments below.

Good shot of lightning. I know how it goes with the spouse. I had a dream a month ago where some tornadoes ripped through town (eerily, the night before some did!) and I was out taking pictures of them, and when I told my wife what I did she said she'd kill me if I did that in real life. :)

I don't know what it was like pre-PS, but it looks great now. It captures the storm and the human moment well.

You can resize them to 800x600 or 640x480. Alternately, put
a semicolon after the URL and it will be displayed here as a link,
rather than an embedded image.

Yes, I was trying different exposure timings and that one was 3 sec. I think. The wind was blowing and hail was raining down like you wouldn't have believed...I can't believe the trees aren't just a blur.

Thanks, the semicolon was exactly what I was looking for.

Todd,

Thank you for the repost. Good thing you followed in Ben Franklin's footsteps- being very lucky not to get lit up by your subject matter! Very Scary!!!

(of course it still took awhile to see the pix-one of these days I might break down and get cable access)

Sorry, being my first post I did not know it would embed the
images. Here's what I meant to do the first time:
