-I am thinking of buying an f717 as I am very impressed by the resolution exhibited in Phil's review tests and snaps. I am assuming it's down to the Carl Zeiss lens. (And Phil's photographic abilities of course.)

Would a photograph taken with an F717 still retain good resolution if blown to A4 or even A3 size?

Also, does anyone know if a new Lexar 256MB memory stick pro card would provide any faster burst speed?

Opinions appreciated.

Hi Dave!

I have not printed pictures from my F717 in A3 size yet, but I did print pictures from my Collpix 4500 wich are 4 megapixels and they came out great from my Epson 1280 printer. I think pictures from the F717 should look even better since I like it's quality more than those from the coolpix. (appart from the extra megapixel...)

Thanks for the response Marcelo

To be honest, I wanted to like the Nikon 5700 more because of the design, the 8x lens and RAW but when I saw what the f717 Carl Zeiss lens can do, there was no contest IMO.

I want to use this camera for landscape/plants/wild life. I have a Canon G1 for holiday snaps. It would be important to be able to blow up and frame the odd photo that comes good. Hence the question about A4 A3 resolution.

Thanks again
Dave

I use a Epson 2200 and have printed both 8x10 and 11x17 with outstanding results. My friends can not believe that I did not have them done at a lab. You will be very happy

There's also no AF assist lamp on the 5700 which makes shooting with no flash very...interesting? in low light. Also I think the max (or would that be minimum?) apetrure on the 5700 is like f/3.5 or f/4.0, whereas you pick up some speed with the 717 at a f/2.0.

Really, I tend to write off the Nikon CoolPix line as "Do-Do" (god forbid I say the C word). Nikon makes great SLRs, and pretty decent DSLRs (although they are currently being edged out by Canon), but when it comes to pro-sumer stuff, thumbs waaaaaay down.

Thanks for the response guys.

To my eyes the 717 exhibits nearer to pro results than the 5700 and that has swayed me.

Greg, you appear to have confirmed good resolution in blow up's.
Thanks
Dave
