No SX60?

In my review article on the SX50, I made a lot of comparisons to the SX40. You may find reading the article helpful in making your decision. In the Most Bookmarked section on the top page of this forum, the article is the first one on the list. Or you can go directly to it here.

Egad. I'll be in Costa Rica then, with my Canon SX50. My sunshine-loving SX50, in Costa Rica's wet-wet-wet autumn, in the cloudforest. Well, looking at the bright side, I won't be able to wreck my brand new SX60, if I don't have it yet!

Responding to a question just above, what I want it for is 60p video, and of course I don't know whether it will have that. I'm just guessing. I photograph birds, and I need LIGHT, which I think is rather more in God's domain; plus I need 60p to make extremely quick bird motion more fluid in my videos.

Well, I don't really NEED these things. I don't even need a camera. Happiness, unlike money, DOES grow on trees; and where I'm going, I'll be rich in trees, oxygen, birds, and the best friends that money cannot buy! So my SX50 is merely an accessory.

I've been there many times before. Not to expensive hotels; not to expensive restaurants; not even to zip-lines. Just an old-man's Costa Rica; 60-something going on 18. I only mention all this as an indicator of one person's suitable Canon SX50 habitat; Purple-throated Mountain-gems and all.

SX40 at that price is a steal. There are a lot of using SX40s that appreciate it having a faster lens so we have not upgraded to the SX50.
So the SX40 got the faster lens while the the SX50 got the better one. SX40 much like my SX20 here. But more zoom. Better in low light? The EVF of 40 and 50 MUCH worse than in the 20? If the 60 does not have better EVF I may buy the 50.

Just tried SX20 at 50 x, including digital zoom, to see how steady I can hold, the result difficult to judge of course. But lots of things happening in the harbor and got a tripod. And with birds you never get enough zoom.

Taking about fast lenses, still use SX2 some times, maybe the sound of the zoom is a bit grittier and eating battery. Would it help to use it more often or spare it to see how long it lives? Still useful between city blocks in daylight.

I'm in a bit of a pickle here. Need a new camera to photograph the new baby (she's arriving any day now - next Friday is the c-section), and I'm strongly considering the sx50. I know, I know - no need for a super zoom when it comes to photographing a child indoors, but I've been searching high and low for an affordable bridge that has decent zoom capabilities and good/acceptable low-light performance, and the sx50 comes closest to fitting the bill. I also can't stand holding/operating pocket-sized digicams.

The dilemma is that I know the announcement for the sx60 is, more than likely, right around the corner; if I get the sx50 now, and the sx60 is announced with a more favorable aperture/higher res display and evf/digic6, I'll really be kicking myself. Of course, if I wait for the eventual probable release (October or November), and I only have my iPhone 5 to photograph the newborn in the meantime, I'll be regretting that, too.

Do you guys have any reason to believe that the sx60 will NOT be announced this year? That'd make my decision much easier. And, while I assume that there's another thread for this next question: what upgrades do you think Canon will realistically feature in the sx60? If it's just 1920/1080p 60fps video, then I do not care at all and will happily save my $$$ by purchasing the sx50. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!!!

I love my sx50 as a hiking/long zoomer... but if I had a new baby coming and needed a fast bridge cam... I would probably get the panasonic fz200 with the constant 2.8 lens..

My guess is the SX60 will have digic 6 to allow for the 60 fps hi res video... Cant imagine a lot of other major improvements.
