It is pretty fug-ugly, isn't it.

Mind you.. most people who by Hasselblad only buy them for posturing and posing with it.

And this would be a great posing camera.

Not so much a look of high end cutlery to me, but more like the grips of a bespoke handgun. Not a bad look as a look. I know nothing about the camera.
They're using the NEX 7 for one of their cameras and I've read that this is actually the RX100.

The looks are what you're upset about? This is just a Sony RX100 with a bit of wood attached to it, and for that, they think it's reasonable to ask for $2,000. That's the disgusting thing.
high price for an RX100

Hasselblad have nowhere to go. They don't make lenses, they don't make sensors, the film camera market is dead and the medium format digital market is tiny.

This is an attempt to bring in some cash by selling bling on the back of a strong brand name.

What would you do in their place ? They should have diversified into bikes, toys, robots or food mixers twenty years ago.
what he said

See next the Hasselblad version of the A3000, for only $3000.

This collaboration with Sony is leading up to a Medium Format camera under the Hassey name. Sony imaging is putting their mark on all niches of the market.
What will happen to the Fujifilm mediun format cameras currently sold under the Hassey name?

The lenses are what is important in this undertaking, how Fujifilms fit into this, your guess is as good as mine.
So far Fujifilm has specified, designed and manufactured both the lenses and the cameras. What do you think are the contractual arrangements that led to Fujifilm using the Hasselblad brand name for their MF system everywhere except Japan? In Fuji or Hasselblad's favour?

Knowing the Japanese penchant for cooperating in consortium, I would look to see which cartel Fujifilms belongs too. If this a Sony designed undertaking, I wouldn't be surprised to see go under the Hassy brand because of its history of being able to squeeze a lot of money from its customers. This also plays with the rumored Canon MF.

You mean keiretsu? Not the same thing as a cartel, and nowadays a pretty loose operating arrangement, but Fujifim and Sony are both Mitsui, but so is Toshiba.

And they don't make MF cameras either, Fuji does.

Hasselblad and Fuji have been partners for quite a few years and Hasselblad is one of the most respected names in the world but this new venture, to use small Sony cameras may be a big mistake.

I don't understand why they would risk their stellar reputation with these cameras. I know the company was sold, in 2011, to a private equity firm so maybe their company mindset has changed.

Hasselblad is like Leica, they're not a huge company, when compared to Sony, Nikon, Canon, etc., and they can't afford to manufacturer their own small digital cameras but they could have at least taken the Leica approach (Leica/Panasonic) and sold rebranded cameras at a more reasonable price.

This putting a Sony camera in a fancy package and charging a ridiculous price just isn't something that Hasselblad would be expected to do.

NEX, Samsung, Sony RX, Nikon V...just a few examples.

That new Samy is only 1600$ and it will fit in your pocket. Snap those up kids.
