Hello everyone!

According to mirrorlessrumors there will be a new 16-80mm f3,5-4,5 soon. I was a little bit confused about this lense because I thought Samsung dropped it from the roadmap for a new 16-50mm f2.8.

So I decided to call Samsung directly. Maybe they can say anything about it. And yes, they did! The friendly girl on the telephone confirmed that they have listet a new 16-80mm f3,5-4,5 and 16-50mm f2.8 in their system. Both lenses are expected for 2013.

I think are very good news due to the fact that Sony announced the 18-105 f4 PZ and 16-70 f4 Zeiss.

Which lense do you will prefer? The 16-80mm f3,5-4,5 or the 16-50mm f2.8?

I'd prefer the fastest lens over the one with longer reach.

Anyway, if that proves to be true, it's very nice to see Samsung is so much committed to NX system.

Now, please just give us a rangefinder NX30 with a new high tech EVF in a corner, and many of us will be very happy.

If the 16-80 has OIS than it would be a must have for me.

Thomas

Oh.. Oh.. your info was right in time, at least for me. I was about to buy the 16mm lens on tomorrow. With your new info I'll suspend or drop my idea and wait for the new 16-50mm F2.8 instead.

I like zoom lenses, except for Macro lens. Just like I used to have Canon EF mount 28-70mm L F2.8, 70-200mm L F2.8, 100mn F2.8 and so on...

Based on Samsung's track record up to this point, the mythical 16-xx zoom is vaporware.

Really? Personally, based on Samsung's track record, I'll believe it when I actually see either lens physically in a shop...

That said, if it were true, it would be excellent news for the NX line... although, I'm not sure how much I need either... I originally wanted the 16-80 and was extremely disappointed when it vanished from the roadmap, but I've learned to make do. The 16-50 f2.8 would be nice, but I already have the excellent 16mm and 30mm primes, and could get the 45mm if I really wanted to cover the range. The 12-24mm is my main "walkaround" zoom on the NX, so I don't mind having primes to cover the longer ranges.

So really, even if both show up, I'll wait and see what the in store price is (and if either has OIS) before I decide whether to buy.

(I'm aware that as someone who consistently posts on this forum that Samsung need to produce more and better lenses, I should really put my money where my mouth is and pre-order both :-) )

If they can keep the 16-80 lighter than the zeiss and cheaper than the sony (18-105), I'm in. 16-50 will probably be a bit heavy for NX, but given that I don't have any SLR, I might bite on that one too.

Given that I just bought the 85mm for about $500 ($250 after points-back that I needed to use), I think the samsung lenses are crazy cheap compared to the competition. That's the real strength.

Did anybody else managed to get an employee of such a company on the phone and make them confirm products that have not been officially announced yet?

The people I get there usually know nothing about their products ...

Almost unbelievable

perhaps he is in touch with them. It's a good thing, for me.

I remember he also stated that the nx30 will come with a newer sensor, so possibly he has some mole inside Samsung. And he brought news about galaxy nx as well.

the 85mm for that price is a steal. I paid about 420€ for it one year ago, and your price was even better :) cheers!

Mind telling us where you got the 85mm for $500? I don't think I've seen that price. Thanks!

I think the 16-50 sounds more appealing to me, a faster zoom would be nice. The new E mount lenses look great especially that f4 lens but boy $998 is a tough pill to swallow. I'm anxious to see what these new lenses look like and how they perform.

The 16-80 is coming in the nick of time, I must say. When Sony announced the new 16-70/4 and the new cheap e-mount body, I thought this was it for Samsung, they're dead. But happily that may not be the case with the new NX lens(es?) on the way and mirrorless rumors also said that the NX30 is also due this year, so Samsung may still bounce back!

Both! :)

Can't really say before I hear the prices. These days, I don't go for the outrageously priced lenses. If both indeed start at 16mm, I might be more tempted to go for the 16-50/2.8 because of the aperture advantage. Then again, when travelling, that extra 30mm in the tele-end would really come in handy! It's not an easy choise. I do hope that both of these lenses come available soon and that the prices are indeed reasonable.

Oh, and thanks for the info! Certainly a first to get this kind of information via a phone call :)

...assuming that all this is solid information and not b*** s***, that is.... :)

I'm sure that the 16-80 rumor is true, Mirrorless rumors said that much. I'm not so sure about the 16-50, though of course I wish that it will happen.

Biggest BS I've ever read here, sorry.

'If you want to get technical advice, please press 1. To hear about our unannounced or classified technology developments, please press 2. To return to the main menu, please press 0.'

You could maybe put here what number you rang, I'm eager to give them a call as well. (Unless you phoned the Korean Head Office, I don't speak Korean yet.)

I paid under $250 for Samyang 85mm f/1.4. Amazing piece of glass but my NX1000 with that lens attached looks like a big lens with a tiny lcd screen screwed on to the back of it :-)

I know from my sources that both lenses are indeed coming this year. 16-80 will probably be announced on September 4th during so-called "IFA day 0". They will also announce US availability of Galaxy NX.

First of all:

you are right: normally people from samsung Support doesn't know anything about upcoming products (Ort just are not allowed to talk about it).

second:

I know one employee from Samsung. He told me about NX20, Galaxy NX and NX30 in the past.. Unfortunately he is not a big player at Samsung and his Englisch is not the best. So its hard to get any Information from him.

Third:

how I received Information of the lenses: Samsung Ucraine spoke about a dust and water proof 16-50mm F2.8 at the event for the NX300 beginning of this year. I called samsung twice and they confirmed it. Now mirrorlessrumors posted that there will be a new 16-80mm f3,5-4,5 (which has dropped from the roadmap as we thought). So I called Samsung again today. And the woman was able to see both lenses (16-50 & 16-80) in their system. And both were listed for 2013. I tried to double check it, but the guy on the telephone said that he has no information. So I called one of the product manager. He told me that he doesn't now anything about future lenses and cameras. I think he just is not allowed to talk about it..... He just said. That there will be no new announcement for the IFA in Berlin. In my oppionion there will be the announcement of the 16-80 before IFA, the 16-50 by end of the year/beginning next year and a new NX30 in the first quater of 2014. But this is just my oppionion. The reason why I spent so much time for this is that I'm an owner of the NX5 and I'm waiting for a New camera. I need a camera with fast opperating speed, focus peaking and good EVF. So, I'm waiting for a NX30 ;-)
