Just a little work done on the jpegs. Poor light but on the flight path so there is some detail. Held Iso down and boosted in PP.

Hi,

Nice shots. I like the composition on 2 & 3 (especially 2). Unfortunately, they seem to have suffered with the bad light and are quite grainy. You might be able to clean them a bit more but risk losing detail.

I have a similar issue with a picture I got of a Great White Shark snacking on a seal, in very poor light (just before daybreak), it's still usable but for small prints or at a distance.

cheers,

Iain

Yours shark was at ISO 3200 vs only 400 for my old D200. That skimmer was only a few yards away so I was hoping it would not need much cropping and then the re-sizing would make it too small to show the noise. I may try to clean it up in LR4 but probably not worth it. Would be interested if anyone knows best way to size photos for this website.

I assume there would have been less noise if I exposed to the right but of course then it would have been quite blurry. I normally don't have to worry about bright sunshine here in the South..

Thanks and that shark is still a once in a lifetime shot that you are lucky to have.

I've had a very quick go at reducing the noise in my favourite image of yours. I did notice that the jpg file is very small, which may account for a lot of the loss of image quality.

Like I said, I love the composition of this shot so if you have the raw file, or a larger jpg, you can probably get a better result than I have. You certainly should not have that much noise at ISO 400.

I hope to go back and get more shark pictures one day, but you are right, it is a shot in a lifetime and I love it despite the relatively poor image quality.

Regards,

Iain
