Share with us you Best Flower shot.

The colors in the first was very harmonous and pleasant. The framing was good too. Indeed a nice "Mother's Day" greeting photo.

Sunrises and sunses have alway fasinated me. The second one I like best. A well composed backlighting picture.
Thanks for sharing.

Ok, technically, Thistle's not at this point a flower - this was
taken at sunrise this morning:

Hi Dave,

Now that I have some free time to go through your gallery, I found that you are great not only in flowers but portraits and art work with PS.

I like all your flower shots. They were all like studio shots and each of them with form and 3D like.

I hope you don't mind if I show your Gallery to my friends there at Bryan's Forum : http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/241401

as soon as I get the money together for a 7hi. Anyway for this image, I used a collapsable reflector which has a black side as a background. Image was then processed in PS...Dave

The first thing I look for in a flower shot is the background. I find your background quite acceptable, though I would prefer it to be more out of focus and to remove the in focus leave on the left just next to the flower. The second thing would be the main subject. The lighting on the flower should not be flat but to vary so that it show form and if possible give a 3D effect. In your case the flower was slightly flat as the petals were not well defined. Some examples of well defined flowers shots were posted by Dave Jaseck earlier in this thread. Maybe you might want to take a look at his gallery:

Hope my suggestions are useful.
Do continue to share your photos with us,

I haven't done many flower shots but but this is one I'm reasonably
happy with but would appreciate suggestions to improve.

thought I could just as well join in. These are my best flower shots, simply because they are just about my only flower shots! The first one is very busy, but I liked the colours.

Any comments welcome

Hi Sadie,
You seem to understand the purposes of flower shots very well.

The first one was very nice and was like the print I saw on a lady's dress. Obviously you enjoy the random pattern produced by the colours and shape of the flowers.

The second one with the background isolated but with shapes which echo the form of the main subject. The subject was also stategitically placed at the ROT position.
Thanks for sharing.

Question, maybe you know how to do it. In post processing, how can I make the background disappear, or out of focus. I took pictures of flowers outside our rooms in St Lucia, and the room door is behind the flowers. I tried to get it out of the way when shooting, but the light and flowers were in the wrong direction. I could have hung a sheet or something behind them, but is there a way in Photoshop to take the flowers out and darken and blur the background? Is this done with layers? I'm still a novice with PS so help is appreciated. The flowers are at:

Well, you asked and here 'tis. I haven't been able to take a better picture of what we call the "Tiger Lily". I have tried but this one is my best one.

If you wander around my site, you will find that most were taken with a Coolpix 990, including this one. 18 days ago I became the proud owner of a 7hi, with all of it's idiosyncracies. So to be loyal to our common cause, this is, perhaps, my best flower from the 7hi:

Here is my favourite flower at the moment. It is a common british wildflower(weed). It only measures about 6mm across.

It comes to you courtesty of Photoshare.co.nz - give them a try - they have a very user friendly site & a free trial period.

A very good question Bill, especially on such a complicated picture. I would normally try to avoid such situation where the background interfere too much with the subject. Choose another plant or move the plant if it was potted if you cannot find a good angle with a plain background. But if you have no choice, then you have to spend hours trying to save the picture.

I also find the layers very useful in this type of situation. This is just a sample and by no means a complete work:

Hi John,
Thanks for sharing your pictures with us.

I like the "Tiger Lily". You have captured this beautiful flower well. The lightings, the background and the framing were all in place.

Congratulations on being the proud owner of the 7Hi, one of the best digital camera in my opinion. I only got the D7(ug).

The second picture had a very interesting composition and more emphasis should be place on the flowers arrangements and the water droplets on the large leave. Try cropping of part of the sides, 1 part right and 2 parts left.

Hi Keith,

You have done great justice to such a common weed. You have turned it into a beautiful flower. Nice composition and form too.

Hi PC,

The picture you posted was a very evenly lighted flower. I would prefer another flower of yours.

http://www.printroom.com/ViewAlbumPhoto.asp?userid=pclong&album_id=138014&image_id=4
It had a better form and lighting effect, do you agree?

Hi Bob

Sorry I was sure I'd replied to this. I did use a +4 close-up lens for the first one but the second is just normal 7i macro and the last is just full zoom from not too far away.
