I ran the posted image through some filters and was unable to locate any incompatible pixel zones and I also checked the levelling of the text on the camera, comparing it with the parameters of the casing. I was unable to find fault with the image and it is not an inverted image (white-to-black) either. Something I have noticed in "legitimate" specs on the European sites is a description that the G5 is supposed to have a different (more streamlined) case design. That is clearly NOT the case with the image posted here.

We have indeed a contradiction in that the "authentic" photograph does not meet the "authentic" description on the Canon website in Belgium, yet there was not (to my knowledge) a black G3 produced to base this image upon.

My opinion is that the image is just as likely to be authentic as it is to be a fake. We'll need to wait for more information. Note that Canon have a habit of "tinting" their lenses for their online ads as they did with the s400. I was under the impression that there was going to be an improved zoom on the lens from various Canon entities... and this image clearly does not reinforce this claim.

Once again, I suspect we shall have to wait a little longer. Nice touches in the image. If the camera wasn't featuring a black case I'd say that more than likely, the image is a fake. Now I'd say it's about 50/50

Pretty compelling stuff. Also, I note that all the other images posted here in other threads were fake. I tested them in a similar fashion and they were quite clearly cut and pasted. This one's a bit more convincing though.

Cheers!

Yes, I see the trim. Hard to determine but it gives me hope that this is a fake.

Seems like an obvious screw up considering the amount of effort must have gone into faking and masking this image.

Good spotting.

Well here he is,

yes I am a new member, but I have no intensions to fool you around. I just live in a different time-zone (thats why I react so slow, the last couple of hours I was working).

The picture is scanned, i don't now from which magazine because it is not scanned by me,I just linked the site (www.tweakers.net) to this forum.
The original poster has provided a link to the camera image
on Tweakers.net , which seems to be a well maintained tech
portal with substance to it.

I have difficulty in believing that such a well maintained
website would doctor an image and specs to fool a few ppl
out here..

So unless U have reason to , stop being unrealistically
paranoid and congratulate the original poster's efforts..

hahaha Don't take it too seriously. It's a sick sport around here to post fakes when rumor or reality proposes a new cam is about to be released.

Most of these guys are just trying to make themselves feel better a little longer before the disappoinment hits that the g5 isn't a breakthrough; but, rather a very slight improvement in a new color. ;-)

Somebody said they wouldn't release it with only this much more... ahahhah LOL.. perhaps they haven't heard of the s30/s40 or the s45/s50 ?

I don't know if this is legit or not or if you were attempting foolery or not.. but my money is actually on both you and the cam being legit at this pont. ;-)
In the end, the fate of the world will not be effected either way. ;-)

Let's clear some things up.

First of all, I'm the original poster of the picture on http://www.tweakers.net/nieuws/27105

Second, I didn't make a fake picture of a Canon G5. The posted image was scanned from a commercial brochure I received.

And yes, I ran the image through a Photoshop fiter for a little bit more contrast.

So, if its fake, then I think the shop I received the brochure from, made a stupid mistake.

Here's my original scan:

IMO the picture is fake, it is not hard to change a bit of type and alter the colour, I created the G3 1/2 image a while back in 5 mins and it was obviously fake but some were amazingly convinced. The colour balance of the image is unnatural, you can still see silver along the bottom edge of the image, the shadows and highlights are wrong, also the red of the G5 type is washed out, the blue lens?

Also look at the strap loop on the side, I'm betting this is still chrome in colour yet it is black chrome here, I doubt canon would colour this part, it has been altered along with the body.

Look at the lens collar, the "canon zoom lens" type which is a recessed type moulded into the collar is not the same colour as the plastic collar.

:) take it easy...at nowday no one know the design neither the full specs of the machine..

i think there could be some software emprovment or a new microchip with more features.. maybe more buffer memory, maybe the ability to take infinite videoclips, etc etc... i just stay here and watch the mountains trough my binoculars while waiting for g5 news...

this scan at now seems the most realible g5

CANON, TELL US MORE, SHIP IT!

Hard day at work :)

But I would like to add this: I don't say that this is a real picture of the G5... I just scanned the image from a small catalog, that's all...

I appreciate your post!

Thank you! I am happy to see news of the G5 as it's appearance means all the sooner that I can afford the G3!

If you use a light table (lit from beneath) to even out lighting you would get that effect, depending on the intensity of the under-lighting. At that low resolution the picture would display the lighting more as a line than a highlight on the product.
Agreed - the most striking thing is the thin silver line along the
bottom of the camera. If it's not fake, can somebody please explain
what that is? Also, the washed out red on the G5 logo looks very
strange.
