The focussing issue has been gone over quite a number of times in this forum. That will probably be the main reason that it isn't addressed that often anymore in this forum. Or does it mean that Canon has made adjustments in such a way that fewer (or no?) new 10D's being sold now have this problem?

I'm ready to buy one from B&H and I'd like to know what to expect, since I live overseas and warranty is a problem...

Thanx!

Pascal.

I was also planning to buy one in NY when I go later this year. Starting to reconsider now unless I see some sort of aknowledgement from Canon. What's the story here? Are they being arrogant? Why hasnt there been an official Canon statement? Things are a bit confused

In one 0430xxx body I tested no.

Different story for my 0130xx body which is in for its 2nd service.

I have a "0420" body and I am having no issues.

I've only had mine for a few weeks. Due to retinal surgery I have not taken as many pictures as I normally would. However, I have done one magazine assignment (photojournalism type stuff) and am extremely happy with the results. I had occasion to meet with my Editor this past week end at an event and he was extremely happy with what he was getting from me. Understand, that is only my camera.

I would not wait at all. Jump in!! The water is fine! Take pictures! Enjoy!

Unfortunately, yes.

A friend recently bought two 10D's both with 0420xxx serial numbers. One of them focuses perfectly while the other had front focus (and is now returned to the dealer).

So, now we're looking for a dealer with 10D in stock at a $1500 pricetag. Anyone?

Can you please explain the difference between front and back focusing issues.

I have a 0430xxx which I recently received and it has focusing issues.

Well, I bought mine yesterday (s/n 0420211141) so unless Fry's is carrying old stock (unlikely), I would say that, sadly, this is still very much a "current" issue.

Cheers,
Pete

Front focusing is when what's in focus is closer to the camera that what the AF claimed it had focused on, and rear focusing is when the sharp objects are behind the AF point. You can have both types with a single body (in my experience...)

Thank you all for your replies! Obviously it's still quite risky to buy the 10D without local warranty.

I guess it's a matter of weighing the risks and the benefits: if I buy the 10D at B&H, it's more than $400 cheaper than buying it at the cheapest place here in Europe! What are the chances that a repair (e.g. recalibration due to focussing issue) will cost more than that? Quite minimal, I'd suspect. Anyone like to comment on that?

Thanks!

Pascal.
