So, I decided it's going back. There are a number of reasons for this decision. What I'm going to do is order a RX100 and see if I really do get better OCC JPEG's or not. Also have to see just how much I'm going to miss the tilting LCD - now if it was fully articulating, well that's another story; the WIFI - not much as my EyeFi card will satisfy my current needs for WIFI connectivity; the Hot Shoe - this I will probably miss but my work around is to use the on camera flash to trigger off camera strobes; and the price - no I will not miss that at all. So, if the RX100 does the same job as this and is $150 less expensive; I'm all for that. If it fall short, them I might order this again or search for something else to replace my trusty S100.

I shot these this past weekend at the High Museum of Art here in Atlanta. They were all shot as jpeg's. and on P mode (maybe even Auto can't remember). They have ALL been PP is Lightroom some more than others. And these are full size images after cropping for you pixel peepers to dissect to your hearts content (just like the frogs in biology class).

Just though I would share the results with everyone. It's an interesting camera!

If I could return or sell my rx100 without a loss, I sure as heck would return it for M2 with many features I want, and presumably better low light BSI sensor.

And, if within return time, I sure as heck would wait to compare them, especially with the question of ooc jpeg sharpness not definitively answered. I would answer it for myself at home.

I consider it a luckily timed opportunity. That store got my order in the first place due to their return policy, no questions asked.

Amen. I guess the try before you buy policy in the USA only works because at least someone is willing to buy a used camera as new, or doesn't notice.
So can you test drive a new car in OZ? Is it then used if you don't like it?

Auto or P mode? Not going to get you the sharpest results with either orig. or M2.

Look at original of last shot, the chair. View original, blow it up, the camera has to be sharper than that. Has to be!

It is 1/30th sec on Auto or P. Too slow for sharpness for me, and apparently you as well. It is a fundamental problem with this camera, default to too slow speed too often.

Keeping both and comparing them this way will not be a good test.

Practice S mode, 1/100th while waiting for rx100 please.

Elliot,

I went back an looked at that last image in LR. I had only applied about 40 sharpening. It appears with the steady shot on that this photo has no motion blur at all in it. That's looking at the specular highlights at 300%. They are perfectly formed. And if memory serves me correctly, I think I even steadied myself and it was not pure handheld. Sure I'll be happy to use what ever mode makes you happy but sadly this is about a good as it gets with picture mode set to standard with +3 sharpening. I've attached the actual camera original to the bottom of this post. As it came out of the camera!

We will see tomorrow when I have the cameras on tripods, S or A mode and shutter speeds as fast as possible. I'll be testing the noise level and I do that in darkish conditions, so the tripod is mandatory. I'll be testing all three cameras on three tripods. (the S100 gets to tag along just for fun). For the sharpness tests, the light will be much better so I can get to at least a 1/100 with something along the lines of f/5.6 or so I hope.

If the image does not appear, it's something with the message board, not me!

Sure you can test drive it. The car you test drive is not the one you walk away with though.

That is what we would call a demo car, here you can pick a new car from
the lot, drive it and if you don't like it try another.

I would't call a car "new" if it had 100s of miles on it from test drives. Just like I wouldn't call a camera new if it had taken hundreds of photos.

That's not "new".
