You said exactly what I was thinking when I saw this, Andrew.

Where did you shoot this from? The angle suggest from a balcony or window a few floors up?
 
Just a tad too dark for my taste but otherwise a great shot!

Are you a rider yourself? You've shown a few horses lately.
 
I posted a simialr image to this elsewhere on ODSLRTF but thought this image could work with a little work in LightZone. I'm not normally given to gimmicks and arty but feel this is stronger with the treatment it was given. Some HDR, Saturation and Crispness.



The image has my niece Ella in pensive pose with my brother on the (GAG) Nikon 1100D shooting images from a vantage point overlooking our city.

Just a tad too grainy for my taste but otherwise a great shot, I could say :) . Anyhow in the reflection is very visible a halo around the mountain line and I think that is a tad to much. However you know what you're doing as you once said about PP. so I think I don't want to judge this one really.

Fixxxer due to some real busy activities I wasn't able to react on your comment in the C&C thread, but I find your question about the PP border where starts and end an image not only a good one but I'm also interested in the anwer.

Also I like to know why so much grain in this image? Do you got a special reason for that?

Andrew that unusual thin leg looked that way due to the angle of capturing and light, we seems deceived by those circumstances, but it is the horses leg :) as I got confirmed it in other images from that series. Thanks for your input Andrew, you've a good eye.

A fine looking animal. It looks small in comparison to the rider. A question: on the left side of the image under her boot, it would appear that the horse's leg looks unusually thin. Is there a reason for this?

Your composition is great, , for me turn the clarity, down a bit or two, then I would hang it on the wall,, (and I am the worse culprit of cranking up the the clarity ), this meant as constructive critic , I do really like the image,

Thanks for the comments. It was taken at the Jinsha Museum in Chengdu, China. Here is a wider perspective sans the children ...

This shot was taken from a balcony in the museum. The shot of the children was taken from the escalator as I was descending to the ground floor.

You may also recall this shot from the museum that a shared a number of weeks ago.

What struck me first was the paper-like appearance of the parrot/Cockatoo in the composition, it has a special charm how it flies into the small valley with the sea and the surf as background. Insanely beautiful, wow.

I actually do have a perfect reason for it, but I'm afraid it's not a good one. I had accidently switched off the raw footage when I shot this one (I have activated that function of turning off raw with the fn-button for when I'm not doing serious stuff I don't always want to fill the memory with raw files) and I underexposed this one quite heavily. So the grain comes from saving the light, basically, but I could have thrashed it then and left it like that. However, I thought it had a kind of old, grainy film look over it and in b/w photo I do like it when subject looks old, like an actual old photo. So I didn't remove any of the noise despite I know how to. But I did one big mistake with the photo that I haven't noticed until you pointed it out (which I'm a bit ashamed of as I'm normally a detail notice freak) and it's the halo by the mountain in the water reflection. Thanks for pointing it out so I can fixxx it or at least be extra hawkish about these things in the future. Perhaps fortunately for me I don't make money on landscape photos, though I would like to some day, since I'm quite obviously not very good at it :)

Thanks for clearing that up. Yes I do remember that carrousel thing from a while ago. Seems like an interesting place to visit - at least from your great shots
 
Like this one a lot. Composition-light-very good-subject of soft and hard in nicely contrasted. Also tells a nice story and invites one to get in the boat and traverse over to the other side.
