I just opened a new XZ-2 that I purchased for a friend.

I found a cap separately wrapped in the box which I assumed was "extra" until I took the camera out of the black bag.

My surprise was discovering that the lens was exposed - no protection. Maybe a stupid question, but Is this normal? I've never received a new camera without some kind of cap or protection for the glass.

I'm assuming no plastic cover on the LCD is normal, although I thought my other Olympus cameras included LCD covers.

My concern here is that the box itself had some dust on it which I removed before opening it. - It wasn't a lot of dust, except there was a bit of dust inside the box. I can't figure out how that could happen either!

Thanks for clarification

That is normal. You need to attach the tether to the cap and camera body, so it is not on the camera when shipped.

Thank you! I appreciate your quick reply.....

Are there any chargers - 3rd party - that can be used to charge this battery? I think it would be a lot easier.

I checked Amazon.....found a nice one with extra battery and charger. I'll definitely use the charger - and am assuming it's okay to use 3rd party battery.

I use a third party charger. It works fine. I prefer Oly batteries. The third party batteries I have for my PEN don't last long as the Oly ones.

Buy the Olympus LC-63a lens cap. Screws on front of lens and the barn doors open and close as camera is switched on and off.
+1. The Oly LC-63a lens cap is superior to the third party ones out there. It is considerably thinner, and works really well. I could never go back to the detachable lens cap that came with the XZ-2.
