The Manual focus lens image thread

Even a lens with faults can give good pictures if you know how to use it.

For instance, soft focus can be very atmospheric. Uncoated lenses give an old-fashioned look.

Lots of very good images in this thread:

These pale next to some of the shots already shown but are some of my favourites. Now if only I could slip away from the newborn and get to some of the places already shown :-)

SMC Takumar 135/3.5 on 5N

Vivitar 70-300/4.5 with 2x converter on 5N. Stack of around 18 shots.

Carl Zeiss Flektagon 35/2.4 on Nex 6 in camera HDR

Carl Zeiss jena 50/2.8 on Nex 6. Not the greatest picture but I like it. Shows my son and brother playing together while my brother is visiting from NZ

I think this one is Minolta 50/1.7 if not it will be a Mitsuki 28/2.8 on 5N

Been shooting 90mm Leica lens of some kind for 50+ years - this from my pre-war 90mm f4 on a Leica IIIa in 1959 - more affordable lens if you can find one, even if uncoated (like mine was).

Too bad it's too big and heavy to travel with.

Firemen trying to get to the college student trapped in the illegally rented attic apartment they're pouring water into. She died.

such a very beautiful photo, the colors, the bokeh, great focus too..but it looked a bit too dim to me.

I hope you don't mind, only one click on auto levels and another on auto curves ( which I then 'lessened' manually a bit ) in PS

That is a darn good lens mate and darn good action shots going on as well !!. Really good. Guy behind those shots is not bad either ;-)

All the best Mel, very publishable shots. Sad story though.

Danny.

Moon Chasing. My tripod setup fails me as I lack a good tripod L bracket with the 5N

I don't do the lens justice as I see much better photos with the Tamron mirror. This one is likely on mono-pod or hand-held as my tripod setup fails me with oscillation.

Hanging your camera bag off the camera can help reduce the oscillations just make sure that you don't add stress to the lens mount or tripod mount.

A tripod with remote is required to get the best out of your setup.

That second shot is magical Lightshow....

They are, they are....

Working through thhe images, I felt it necessary to remark that "good" are not reserved to "select" lenses and nice to see some manual zooms working away in there.

One from my Topcor R 135/3.5, which is awesomely sharp.

Love the retro look to the colors! Works well with the composition. Did you do something special to get to this coloration?

.
Presets in Lightroom can do something like this with a click, I don't know how Puddleglum crafted the retro feeling in this pic.
