Now that the experimentation phase is done, it is simply becoming "my camera", and I am finding it simply perfect for just about anything you can throw at it: Long exposures, HDR, Landscape, Architecture etc.

I am about to leave for Europe, starting with Italy, where they are forecasting 37 degrees (100 F) for the next 10 days... My X100s, light and easy to carry, will do just fine.

Here are a few recent ones

Nice set, but shooting f/11 indoors and f/4 outdoors doesn't make sense.

Cheers,

Indoor on a tripod while being close to subject and when only a small aperture will give the required depth of field that I wanted and f/4 outdoor when the subject matter, being rather far away, falls well within the depth of field provided by f/4 while benefiting from a decent speed at base ISO... Why not?

Do you see a problem in the results? I don't.

Nice set and love anything from Jordan Pond and Acadia. Been there many times to shoot with my Nikons and hae even camped there. It has been about 4 years and if possible I hope go there for the foliage. I have hiked thos bubble mountains a few times and shot ack down to where you were. Lovely area. Wonderdful camera.

Thanks Al,

I could not agree more with you. My wife and I wanted to visit this area for quite sometimes and we spend a lovely week camping there.

I took my more elaborate - get up very early - shots with my D800 where I was still considering the X100s more like a point and shoot and walk-around camera. I know now that, within certain limitations, it is a prime camera that will hold its stick in many situations where a more elaborate DSLR was seen as the primary choice.

And it is so fun to use.

My best regards,

Michel

I said it didn't make sense, but since you mentioned using a tripod, perhaps using ISO 200 would have made more sense to avoid noise in the shadows and blown highlights in the window.

Very nice shots!

I just got back from a month in Italy, all of it on the Amalfi Coast. With the XE1, among a few others... I think I timed it better than you are about to. Almost all of July was quite nice there, while it was insanely hot and humid back home in Pennsylvania. The last couple of days before we left (came back yesterday) were starting to get REALLY hot in Positano, but it's incredibly beautiful and not hot at all here now, or for the next week or so at least. The last time I was in Italy in 2010, they had one of the worst heat waves on record for the whole two weeks we were there. 107 f in Rome when we were there and not much better anywhere else. So this time we were paid back for that with mostly nice weather...

Where will you be in Italy?

I stay at Blackwoods Campground in the park. I think one needs reservations in the summer but I have camped there in September and October - 3 or 4 times. it is a very short walk to view the ocean and see sunrise. On a clear night with a full moon and the tide coming in that place can be just magical

Shot this one at sunrise - less than 5 minute walk to shore from campground

Nope, I don't see any problems. Great set!

Michel,

Very nice set! I like the Acadia pictures and the way you processed the shots both in Acadia and inside the church.

These are truly beautiful photographs!

Nice pics. Btw I can confirm the forecasts for Italy: hot doesn't describe the weather of thesr days!
Thanks! We'll have to slow down and enjoy a Gelato under the shade, especially during midday.

Thanks Ray,

We will be staying in Massa Lubrense, on the Amalfi Coast, for the first 5 days and then we will be going in the Tuscany Region from where we'll be traveling to Barcelona where we will be boarding for a cruise that will be taking us back to Italy, Dubrovnik Croatia, Monaco etc. A month all in all for celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary.

Enjoy your beautiful Pennsylvania!

Extremely well done set, especially coming on a day dPreview posted its own x100s review. The quality of your images matches the exuberance of the reviewer quite nicely.

Have a great trip and stay cool.

don't own X100s but equally as impressed with my XE1, with 18-55 and 35/1.4. may pick up 23/1.4 when it comes out in a month or so and then 56/1.2 in January of next year and it will be a killer system for vacations of all sorts!
