You saved me a job!
Great work. Thank you!
Before I started the thread I'd have guessed from the comments on the forum that the average rating would be about 6.
You can find more than 20% of people who hate kittens and ice cream, so an average of 8.5 is amazing.

What in the world is a "medium score"? That's such an esoteric statistic that I've never heard of it.

By the way, I give the FW release a 10. Does that affect your "medium score"? ;)

I give them a 9, as well, since they failed to give me a foot rub, deliver the pizza of my choice and read me the funnies while I completed the firmware upgrade.

Peter, thanks for providing stats.

Have to say that I am surprised that average score is above 6-7 mark. Kudos to Fuji!

And how do you compute a "medium"? And how is that different than the "large" or "small" score for these data? ;)

When Quentin Tarantino was asked why he does not release "Director's Cuts" of his movies he said it is because he gets them right the first time. A bit arrogant for sure but he does have a point.

Each time there is a firmware update it involves updating each of the lenses and warnings about weak batteries and a caution you have to agree to that if anything goes wrong it is all your fault. And now no video unless you take out the battery or something. (wait until there are 15 lenses, better book time off work)

Now let me get this straight. A company puts out a great camera with firmware so crappy it needs to be updated every few months and some times the fix (like this time) causes more problems and we should be thrilled?

Excuse me while I go back to trying to figure out Silkypix.....
When you go fishing do you drive the boat really slow while dragging a line off the back?

You can't set a lower limit to the shutter speed in Auto ISO as you can with the X100, X100s and Leica M240.

Ha ha amusing. Probably 585 of my 590 posts on this forum are extolling the virtues of the Fuji system. - Sure I am mad at them right now because they sold me a dead 55-200mm and will take 6 weeks to repair it but I was expressing a valid point I think.

If you are so hung up on your gear that you cannot accept that the manufacturer is less than perfect... Get over it. It is not the camera it is the person with the finger on the shutter that takes the pictures.

I don't like doing upgrades and I expect the darn thing to work right out of the box. Can anyone tell me what happens if you pop the battery out or turn off the camera half way through? Does it explode or something or is it the same BS about crashing the plane if you forget to turn your cell phone off or heavens no do not return your tray to the upright position.

Ha ha, wasn't trying to be to serious here. Sucks having a 6 week repair turnaround. It makes one really appreciate Canon's 1 day turnaround time.

It's not about accepting Fuji as being less than perfect, it's about accepting that Fuji while being nowhere near perfect is doing a pretty dam impressive job. First gen cameras of a new system are always plagued with issues and with the X-system we're talking about a system built from the ground up. When Canon first released their DSLR's they were far from perfect and they had a whole lens system and film SLR history to build upon. Most camera manufacturers opt to release another camera with all the fixes and updates (Remember the Canon 20D - 30D FW update?), Fuji opted to update the current model based on user feedback. To me that adds value to the product and the company. I agree that FW updates are a bit of a PIA, but if I wanted to avoid that, I'd have to wait for the 2nd or 3rd gen camera and I'm a bit too impatient for that. I figure it all comes with the territory of being an early adopter. Perhaps we should expect more for our hard earned cash, but given our other options Fuji seems to be paying out pretty damn well compared to the competition.

If you pop the battery out or turn the camera off half way through the camera does explode destroying everything within a 10 mile radius. You do know that if you don't return your tray to the upright position the plane will crash. I was once on a plane where my tray was broken. I held it up with my bare hands during landing and saved everyone on that planes life that day. I was a true hero. For my heroism the airline bestowed upon me the honor of a free drink coupon.

In a fit of rebellious daring, I once tried updating the firmware with a not quite completely charged battery. Disappointingly, the camera did not explode but merely refused to do the update and scolded me to charge my battery. I was suitably chastised.

Don't know about you, but mine did work right out of the box, worked beautifully, and worked just like I expected it to after reading reviews before my purchase.

It's the nature of computer programming -- and the Fuji camera is a specialized computer -- that software that "works" can always be improved upon. Some companies charge for software upgrades; Fuji (thus far) hasn't. Nothing wrong with trying to improve upon something that already works.

Given that they make no money from the FW upgrade, and could just as easily channel the improvements into their next generation hardware, stimulating camera sales by increasing the quality difference between generations of cameras, it feels mighty charitable of them to give us more than what we originally paid for. Every time they issue a firmware upgrade, it feels like Christmas with a free gift from Fuji Claus.

If you hate gifts of that nature, don't open the package. The camera worked fine before ... right out of the box.

Quite right Bowports but sometimes I am just a grumpy old man. This week towards Fuji I am. Love the camera, love the upgrade, never use video so what. But the Fuji Guys let me down. They used to invite me to their parties but they never call any more. Now its six weeks for a defective lens I was on the waiting list since they were taking orders.

Anyway perhaps it is because of my picture of them (taken with an X100 btw) keeps ranking #1 on Google Images : The Fuji Guys. Once they sent me a name tag which had my name and underneath: Photographer. It was one of the greatest moments of my life. Now its sit down and wait another two weeks for the part to come in. sniff...sniff I hate you and your firmware sucks. (until I get my lens back)

You had me laughing out loud with this post. Touche!

Did I mention that I ordered a 55-200 last Saturday, received it on Monday, and it's functioning beautifully? I think I'll walk down to the river and shoot with it right now. I'll have my wife photograph me doing so and then we'll post the photos for your enjoyment. ;)
