why do i get a secondary orange spot when shooting the sun?

It usually is positioned under the actual sun in the framed photo.

Lens flare, which can be very ugly (a single, bright, low-diameter greenish spot) on, say, the iPhone 5. I've uploaded some shots showing this to Flicker, using both the HDR and normal mode of the stock Camera client and also the HDR mode of Top Camera:

The last two shots ("Sun shooting HDR example - 01 - 1 - focus to Sun - normal" and "Sun shooting HDR example - 01 - 2 - focus to Sun - HDR") show trying to exposure bracket by focusing to the Sun almost every time results in the camera not being able to focus - this is why these two shots are severely out of focus. Because of the wrong focus, the resulting green spot is far less annoying (it's much larger in diameter / much darker than with properly focussed shots)

It probably is lens flare, but on occasions it could be due to internal reflections in the lens groups.

Here is an image I captured with my phone taken into the sun. I used the built in ND filter as well as an additional polarizer to reduce light hitting the sensor.
