I use a 500mm F/4.5L hand held and Chris uses a 5D MKIII with 400 F/2.8L and we walk a fair distance. Steve uses a 500 F/4 and Boney a 300 F/2,8 with a 2x TC. We all shoot hand held and hey, I'm going on 60guybie wrote:

I know they cost much more and are heavier, but his pictures are sharper and very important, AF is much faster and more accurate, certainly when birds are passing by.
I have more birding friends with the same gear, same great results.
BUT, they useally stay on the same spot, because walking around is to difficult because of the weight and size.
That's for me the only reason to stay with GH3, because i like to do some long distance trips.
