Raymond,

I like your interpretation, but the effect I was after was not the high contrast look. I was trying to achieve a softer dreamlike image with a wide tonal range. If you look at the images at the gallery link below you will see that most of them are high contrast. The one I linked to the forum stands out in this group precisely because it is not high contrast.

Hi Ken,

I get what you mean. This particular orchid you took had a few distracting dark spots on its petals. In fact I did removed some of them in my last edit. It was not very sharp either. Therefore the best way to treat it was to go dreamy. I was wondering if you go all the way to high key, would it acheive another interesting interpretation and closer to what you wanted?
Regards
Ruan

Hi Ambrose,
Thanks for sharing your photos here.

The first picture was a nice flora design, good for poster. Looked like one of the design on my wife's dress.
The second picture the flower was nice but was also not clearly define.

Hi Plamen,

You certainly know how to photograph flowers. Each of the flower posted here was clearly defined as they contrast well with the backgrounds.

I noticed you been to Turkey. That was a truly a place filled with photographic opportunities.
Here is one I took during my tour in Turkey:

Thanks for sharing.

Okay Raymond your challenge has been met. I have one with a bug and one without.

With the bee: http://www.pbase.com/image/17036029 Poor guy got so much pollen he had to stop and clean his face.

And just a Yellow Rose fo Texas: http://www.pbase.com/image/17036020

I know you are enjoying your Minolta as much as I am. I really am enjoying the joys of digital photography and the Minolta Dimage 7HI.

As a side note, I know he turned in his Minolta, but doesn't the professor still read these threads and enter his old Dimage pictures (where are you Peteri?).
Cheers

I think this is one of my best taken to date. What about you?

Hi Bill,

I really like your well define yellow rose. Are there really lot of yellow roses in Texas? I have heard of that song when I was very young.

I am afraid the bee cannot be easily found in your first photo. I suppose it was moving all the time.
Thanks for sharing.

Raymond

The bee is bigger than life, much bigger than the one in your photo. He is standing in the middle of one of the flowers at the top of the pictures, cleaning his face. http://www.pbase.com/image/17036029

Yes, lots of roses, and the most popular is the yellow one, although we also have roses named after presidents. But our best roses are the ones who take pictures of themselves in car mirrors (wonder which Minolta person that refers to). Of course the song is about a beautiful golden haired lady who has won the heart of the singer.

Enjoying this forum and learning a lot about the 7Hi and 7i. Now I need the links to the advertising people that "Icypeak" found.
Cheers
Bill

Hi Rick,

Thanks for sharing your beautiful flower shot with us. This shot may look better if you cropped to a square because it was round and symetrical in design.

I've already posted this elsewhere here, but since we're on the
subject.....
Some pics are oversaturated purposely while testing out the camera.

Thanks Raymond,

Its a fun camera to use...I have a ton more pics but haven't had a chance to update my site. Will be sure to post again whenever I update it and when the question arises again! Happy snapping!

Thanks for starting this nice thread, really fun.

I have doubts about the second one also but on the other hand it doesn't cost that much.

I'm also thinking about this one, but maybe I should just go with nr1?:

http://www.pbase.com/image/16445533/large

I never done this before, I know the image needs to be good though, but does that mean those two apart from nr one is just to forget or can I try it out or is it just a waste of money?

Hi Ambrose,
Thanks for your participation.
I noticed that some of your pictures were not very sharp.
Did you use tripod when photographing flowers?
But I do like your "Redknight" and "Whiteangel" in your gallery.
