Never seen one that big or red... but it kinda looks like a tachinid fly

I don't know what the heck that fly is but by being red, I'm sure it's nature's way of saying "stay the heck away from me or pay the price!"
Like that red eyed bird shot too
ps...I've found that fly in three different locations in Google Images. A name isn't given or simply called "Redfly".

I believe Britney is right, it is a red tachinid fly. I took this photo several years ago and used this site to identify them. http://bugguide.net/node/view/25771
