Hi all,

The 20mm f1.7 II is released in Japan, anybody found any reviews for this yet?

Has AF focus speed and sounds been fixed?

I highly doubt it, since it seems like the lens design is the same, but figured i'd ask.

Nevermind, I found an official announcement from Panasonic in regards to this lens....

Disappointed!

Read this bit about:

※ It is the only change of the exterior design from previous models (H-H020), the performance of the optical design does not change.

only difference?

Old version = 100 gm.

New version = 87 gm.

i heard only specs and images but no preview,hand-on or youtube review ,why?

I know too little about new lens. I think that major difference is a focusing mechanism that looks for my eyes more like that from 2.5/14 lumix lens. I believe new lens is going to be less noisy.

Regards

S.

why don't you just wait for the reviews before shouting and panicking? Panasonic would never release a new version of an old lens with only exterior changes!

I hope AF for video recording will be faster. I like 20mm a lot.

Why not? Sigma did just that with their 19mm and 30mm.

But it is a Panasonic press release. You think they are hiding some neat feature? A mass reduction from 100 to 87 grams won't motivate me to "upgrade" :-)

It may be that they are modifying a number of lenses to provide a consistent exterior appearance. I wonder if, like the new 14-140, it will be available in Europe and Oceania months before it can be purchased in the Americas?

Amazon says "Available for Pre-order. This item will be released on August 9, 2013."

Pretty disappointing, just releasing a newer version because of looks and the slight weight difference.

They should have listened to their customers and fixed other issues. Then it would have enticed their previous customers who had Mark 1 version to buy the new version. With just the change of weight and better looking, I doubt people will be flocking to buy it.

Fix the slow AF, then you will have pretty much every owner of the Mark 1 buy the Mark 2. haha
On the other hand....

The 20/1.7 is so good, why mess with success. I just tried some test shots using it on my E-PM1. a fast-focusing camera. The speed was acceptable.

If they had re-designed the len, the end result might not have been so good.

So long as the optics aren't plastic. There I draw the line ;-)

Interesting that they give monthly production volume (1000)

The older versions of the 19mm and 30mm lenses (which I own), were not "art" lenses like their revisions. I just purchased the Sigma 60mm "art" lens, so I'm sure that my photography (when using the 60mm) will be improved, more creative, and enhance my artistic skills, assuming I have any.

About the only difference in the specifications (that I can see) on the B&H site is the weight and the minimum focusing distance has changed from 7.92 inches to 7.87 inches. The new one has the same amount of blades, and 2 aspherical elements as well as the same magnification ratio as the old one. Time will tell I guess if the focus speed is improved. It does state that AFC is not possible for still photos. The outside dimensions are listed as the same, the weight is less.

On the contrary, one of the features of the new lens is its metal exterior, vs. the plastic exterior of the previous one.
