When I view my images, on my computer, I get a number DSCS 4016. Is 4016 the shutter count? I have a Fuji X-E1 thank you.

This is the frame (image) number and doesn't necessarily match the number of shots (shutter count, shutter actuations) that the camera has done.

From the manual:

"renew" is self explanatory. I've highlighted important bit about "continuous". What it means is that if you put a card in (eg someone elses card) that has a frame no. higher than the one that's in the camera's internal memory then it will continue from the higher number and not from the last one that you took.

To summarise: if you are the original owner, you always had the camera's file numbering on continuous and you've never used someone elses SD card then yes, the file number DSCF4016 is equal to the shutter count. If not then the shutter count is unknown.

Thank you for you're reply. I bought the camera second hand, & used a new SD card. My shutter count is probably more than 4000.

So DSCF6036 for the first photo on my "new" camera indicates at least 6035 previous shots? If so, is this reasonable?

No, it does not indicate 6035 previous shots. It is impossible to tell how many shots have been taken. It might have been 1 previous shot with a memory card that had image number 6034 on it (this can easily happen at a camera store). Or it might have been 0 previous shots if your memory card had an image numbered 6035 on it. Fuji cameras will start counting from the highest numbered file on the memory card; it doesn't even need to be a Fuji image file to affect the count. Some camera images will affect the count, others will not.

Good. I'll forget about shutter count then.

Thanks.

Yes sorry, I should have specified "in a sealed/unopened box". If it truely did 6035 previous shot you might expect there to be some wear on the camera
