I am at the moment, keeping my eye out for one of these. However there are no reasonable used ones on ebay and as soon as any come up on Fuji Refurb they are gone within 3/4 days. This is not conducive with a line of cameras that is so-called "Had its day" and was a bad seller. What's it all about? Your thoughts please.

Many things, this is a one of the kind camera in the bridge camera market, it is for 3 months now discontinued, without the successor in sight, and the victim of botched (premature?) release by Fujifilm, plagued with sensor,, lens and resulting soft images problems. Slow sales are probably the result of poor initial quality and high price (for the such troublesome release). For many, fixed production models came too late, it was NOT properly advertised by Fuji that it is fixed, and the whole ordeal (with the replacement lens/sensor program) cost Fuji a nice sum of money, being that the lens/sensor unit is probably quite a bit more expensive to produce and replace then on X10, which run a similar replacement program. It is also a pretty expensive camera to produce, and profit margins were tight to start with, so Fuji probably learned their lesson.

So after a bad start, people now see the potential of this camera, but it is not in production any more, leading to more demand than there are available units.

+1! after the initial release QC issues the XS-1 easily established itself as the best bridgecam out there, great IQ, very well built, and ergonomics are superb, out of 4 cameras I have the XS-1 is the most versatile.

Have you checked the really good stores that handle used goods?

BHPhoto has one for 449 ... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800883390-USE/Fujifilm_16199188_X_S1_Digital_Camera_Black.html

KEH.com also has one that is marked LN- condition for the same price ... http://www.keh.com/camera/Fuji-Digital-Point-and-Shoots/1/sku-DF059991283960?r=FE

They're out there ...

I the UK the price stayed solid after discontinuation. Usually prices crash for a while until most of the stock is mopped up.

Sadly three great Fuji cameras have gone now, the X10, X100 and XS1. All of them had problems, in the case of the X10 these were clearly resolved but not in the case of the other 2 but even so, they were 3 great products

Still widely available in the UK, even from Fuji at £399 - £450.

and Amazon UK.

This has been posted some 9 months ago...but it would appear the serial numbers starting with 22 and 23 have had the sensor and lens changed from the original 'botched' batch.

Thanks for all your thoughts. Being a new member I did'nt realise there were problems early on, but it would appear they have been sorted, which still leads me to wonder why Fuji have not brought a later addition out as they have with the X10 and X100. Surely a camera with a lens of this calibre coupled with an optimum sensor that Fuji have at their disposal, could cause big problems for their competitors.

I think the starting high price of the camera and early problems made that it was not popular. Now that the camera is discontinued, it is selling much lower. I've seen as low as 480$ here in Canada new so its getting more demand. At that price it is a no brainer, especially since its early problems have been resolved.

I'm getting one since I doubt Fuji is planning to come out with an X-S2. They lost money on each X-s1 and not because of early problems. I bet that lens cost a lot to make.

Would be cool in the near future if they come out with a 16mp 1inch sensor, but with an 18-400mm lens. I think that would be awesome.

Can't wait to receive my X-S1 and start using it. It is still the best superzoom out there imo.

Yes Ferrarista 27, I think your views are about the same as mine. I too are waiting "after a lot of thought" to get hold of the X-S1. I will maybe then get a X100s as a lighter ( Weight Wise) alternative. Good Luck.
