Hi All,

If you could only own ONE CX lens for your N1 camera(s), which one would you want to own (current lenses)? Disregard availability of specific colour you may prefer.

Cheers

It's a poll, ten votes are already in, so it's time for some vacuous commentary from an ignorant pundit; I thought I'd oblige.

50%+ for the 10-100VR non-PD as an only lens seems a gimme (slam-dunk!?).

A wide guy/gal or two, and an HCB-type normal prime guy/gal or two can be expected; a portrait guy/gal or two will show up soon for the 32.

But let's go over with our outside broadcast team to interview those two outliers who prefer the 30-110 to the 10-100VR…

10-100 non PD, but I wouldn't be happy ;)

LOL ... I'm expecting someone to start talking about sharpness very soon.

The 30-110 is optically better, slightly faster within the range 30-100 and 123g/41% lighter than the 10-100 VR. I do so little shooting at wider FLs that I rather have these advantages.

I've got the 18.5/1.8 but mainly for the f/1.8 under dimmer conditions. For decent 8" x 12" prints the shots taken with it can be cropped up to about 33 mm equivalent if desired.

I rejoice in the advantages of the 30-110 (since that's what I have :-) ) but as an only lens...

Since we talk about an interchangeable lens camera system - the next logical question is, which lens would you put in your pocket, as an alternative to the one you have mounted on your camera. The 18.5 is a strong contender.

This is too depressing considering the portability of the system... I still chose the 18.5 anyway.

because if I could only have one lens, I wouldn't buy into the system. There are a number of single focal length cams out there and I didn't buy any of them because I wanted the flexibility of being able to change lenses. Thus, in my mind, your question doesn't make sense.

My lens choices are the 10-30 and the 30-110 plus the FT-1 and my AF-S lenses.

Yes, it would. However, if I also had the 32/1.2, the situation wouldn't be so clear cut. The 32/1.2 is 1+ stops faster and has for my shooting a better cropping range, i.e., from 32 mm to about 57 mm, but it is also 165 g heavier. Perhaps for even dimmer conditions... or sometimes even as the only lens given the overall range...

I've only had it for a little over 3 hours but I'd choose the 10 mm. Small , loads of dof.

Still, if I could only have one lens, this is not the system I would buy into.

!0-100PD because it is the most universal lens for N1 cameras.

The second "first" choice is 10-100 (non PD). If I don't need maximum video flexibility then this one would be definitely my first choice.

Last winter vacation I had that situation: 30-110 on camera and Nokia Pureview 808 in my pocket for wide angle shots!

I bought into the N1 system to have a smaller more portable camera to go along with my D7000 so the enormity of the system wasn't that important. A second reason to buy in was for the FT-1 and the use of lenses like the 70-300 and 105. I find that I use the 10-30 and the 18.5 the most on the V2. If I had to live with only one, I would pick the 18.5 because it is fast and sharp.
