Just back from my Aussie trip and a visit to the airport was always going to be a possibility there.

Again the camera has done good and I've put through some more exciting shots , which hopefully won't be too boring for the non-spotters here.

Not a spotter but I certainly enjoyed looking at your airplane photos and I agree the SX50 did a nice job in your capable hands--thanks for sharing this series!

I love your photos..I just start spotting around my airport (Trudeau). Can I ask what camera settings u use for plane taking off? (ex: P mode...)

I have a question about zooming during video recording. On my Canon SX40HS, I don't hear much of the motor zoom sound, and during zooming the video stay focus..

I just got the SX50HS. I noticed the zoom sound is more louder with sorta 'thunk' sound when zoom stop..and during zooming the video sorta blur little before AF focus on subject again.

Ex: I am video taping the plane taking off..As it come closer I zoom out, and the airplane sorta blur a little and focus again when zoom stop..Samething when I zoom in the plane in the air. I didn't get these often in SX40HS.

Program mode but did set the ISO at 80 as it was good light.I did a few checks before hand to make sure the shutter was high enough to freeze the action, probably too high on the prop one and should have been lower to show the prop in motion more (Hank's advice)... like so:

I find the same with video and maybe next model SX60HS may have some improvements here?

The video is not too bad and you do have the mega zoom don't forget, but find my other camera the Sony RX100 does a great on video compared to it (different things I know).

ATR-500 Virgin example and note the focusing:

Really nice Rava! The SX50 comes through very well on these.

By the way, I have not seen this many different airliners since 9/11/2001 when I was flying. Ended up in Las Vegas and while waiting to taxi into the terminal, I saw scores of jets from all over the world waiting to land.

At least I know other SX50HS have same issues as mine.

The SX40HS zoom out seem to stay in focus, but zooming in sometime lose focus..As in this video. The SX40HS AF maybe quicker because faster lens and lower zoom?

You can see zooming in Air France 747 after take off it blur a bit.

But with SX50HS is seem blur at zoom in or out and take longer to focus back..I am not sure I should keep it as it's a distraction. It does product sharp photos and videos..Even evening time. Also, with the longer reach, I can continue film the aircraft after it take off..
