Ok, so I purchased ProShow Gold yesterday. Does everything and then some. After registering the software last evening and able to use the live version, the adrenline begin to flow more forcefully because now I am viewing a screen that is very different from the demo and very nicely laid out. Imported my images, arranged them in the order I wanted, added music, did a trial play and everything look and sound great. Now I want to produce a VCD or super VCD. When I applied this action, I got a message that a cd burner could not be found. Over the weekend I replace my cd burner with a DVD burner that also burns cds. Since the software could not recognize my burner, it went through the process of creating the VCD but save it in a CUE/BIN file. If I understand correctly, I could burn this file by simply going through the DVD/CD normal burner procedure. Did this, file burned, but I could not play it anywhere - home DVD (which my DVD manual indicated capable of playing VCD) nor my DVD player on the computer.

Those of you who own this software, please tell me what I am doing wrong. I have a wedding coming up in two weeks where I promised the B/G this media.

Do I need to purchase CDs that are specificaly designed to burn in VCD or SVCD formats?

As I recall, VCD and DVD file systems are the same standard as CD-ROM, ISO-something...something.

However, the top level directory structure of a VCD is very specific, requires specific folders at the top level along with specific files that describe the contents of the VCD (VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS...). DVD's folder structure is different yet again compared to VCD's.

Also, filenames cannot exceed 8 characters for consumer players, though computer based CD and DVD players won't have a problem with that because they support the Joliet and long filename extensions of the CD-ROM file system.

See if you can browse the VCD you burned in the computer DVD-ROM drive, and look at the folders. Compare that to a VCD that you know works and you can see if that is your problem. Sometimes, when an authoring tool saves into a hard disk directory, it isn't ready for burning directly to CD or DVD, and needs to be done by the authoring tool itself. Saving to disk is often for temporary storage (say you ran out of blank CD's), or to save the latest version of your production in case you need to rever to it when you run out of time.

Not all DVD players play SVCD. Most SVCD players are made in China due to high bootleg availability. Check out http://www.vcdhelp.com it may help answer some questions.

I bought Proshow (not gold) a couple weeks ago and every thing works fine on my system,,I only have a CD burner, but it makes VCD's that work with my DVD player. You may check how your software is configed. DVD players have two formats..PAL (European) and NtSC (north american). You may have your software configed to do one while your player is the other. But somehow I don't think this is the issure.

Try this: Open PS gold, load a show, go to "create...when the window opens, select Create VCD then click the 'output tab. On the top right of this box you should see a box that says CD Writer. If you don't see your's listed, hit the down arrow and see if it's in there. There is another tab right below this that says "if you don't see your CD Writer listed click here.. and this will give you some more options.

Also, on the left side of this page is where you can specify your output as Pal orNTSC. If you're going to do a CueBin thing you may want to change it to the other just to see. Also, look on the back of your DVD Player..sometimes there's a switch to go from Pal to NTSC.

Finally, try calling Prodex,,seem like good folks. I really like my copy. Let me know how it turns out bc
