Personally, I'm not dropping big coin on a body and then scrimping on glass. Try searching Flickr for that body and lens combo. I'll bet there will be a couple of photos to examine.

I think you will find pretty much everything you want, in some considerable detail, here - but do read right to the updates at the end...

Yea, several posts have discussed this lens and this body. Short answer: sharp as hell. Hard to find much sharper a wide angle at this focal length.

This is my primary rig. The Sigma 1.4 is a substantial upgrade from my Nikkor f-2.

My only complaint about the lens is the size. Why do we have to buy a F1.4 lens to get good corner sharpness at F 4? I would like to see a premium line of lenses with more modest maximum F. I'd pay the same price as I did for this behemoth.

It's definitely bigger than the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 I had when I was using DX cameras, but I'm not bothered by it. It feels wonderful in the hand when it's not on the camera. It just has a feel of quality and precision.

I sold the Zeiss 35mm f2 on ebay 1 week after first shot with the new sigma, it is an amazing lens, best 35 mm i ever had and it's AF, on D800E the sharpness is impressive, hope sigma will introduce a 50 mm soon!

You Will Never Walk Alone
Try the Sigma and there's no way you'll overpay for the Nikon 1.4.

To buy the Nikon version is to scrimp on optical quality. Sometimes those 3rd party guys get it so right it's scary.

Hi

I just got mine few days ago and and searched hard on the web for reviews before ordering it. So far, all my lenses are Nikon.

But I don't regret it! Quality is much better than Nikon lens for that range of price and quality/sharpeness is just great on the D800!

I think that it will probably be the lens I am going to keep mounted to that body for a while.

I was reluctant to buy a 35mm since I already have a lens covering that range. Here are my lenses so far (all Nikon but that Sigma):

14-24 2.8

24-70 2.8

70-200 VR2

85 1.8g (very sharp on the D800/E !)

105 VR Macro

300 f4

and the TC20E3 which works like a charm on the 70-200 and also on the 300 with a little bit slow AF.

and now that Sigma 35 1.4 which is not weather proof... my only fear in that regard is for humidity since travelling a lot in Africa and getting in and out building with AC. Hope the condensation will not kill it...

Take care

Phil

I have this combo (d800 + sigma 35/1.4) for over 4 months. Excellent walkabout setup. Details & sharpness is unbelievable. Pixel peepers & croppers would love this combo.
