So, do you say "asterisk i.s.t", or "asterisk ist"?

Even more, how does one say that in French?? I just spent a whole week in the French part of Switzerland trying to tell them what the name of the model was and they all looked very puzzled.

Of course, I always thought it was "star ist"...

However it is pronounced, the index sites (google, etc.) must wonder whether any real thought was put into it. " " is typically a wildcard. Having one at the beginning of the word is a programming PITA.

Ok, but where does the "k" in the middle come from?

I could have understood if the * stood for just one letter of the alphabet - like "m" and the combination would give "mist".

Maybe Pentax just wants to leave it to our imagination... (which wouldn't be a stupid campaign slogan if you thought about it)

ha-ha, i agree! although i've heard that pentax's director of marketing is 'the artist formerly known as 'prince'.

still, i don't think "coolpix" and "finepix" are that far behind. i mean, what's next? "radpix"? "awesomepix"? the slang words currently among my gen-Y nieces and nephews are "hecka" and "tight"...i sure hope we don't start seeing "heckapix" and "tightpix". well, at least you can PRONOUNCE those!

I found out the real answer. The ' ' wildcard character is a place holder for the letter 'P'.

Because of it's delay, I am Pist.
