Auto-hyperfocal setting?

It would be great if a camera could autofocus the lens to the hyperfocal distance based on the aperture chosen. Are there any cameras with this feature?

Canon used to have DEP and A-DEP modes on some of their cameras. Here's a short article on how those modes worked:

I saw that feature years ago on a Canon film camera. I recall thinking at the time that it was a brilliant idea - after all, the camera knows which lens is attached, and once it knows the near and far distances you want in focus, it can easily figure the optimum aperture and proper focus distance. I imagine a DIGIC 5 processor could handle that in about a nano-second.

I can't imagine why Canon discontinued a wonderful tool like that. Of course, you can always do it manually - with a tape measure, depth of field chart, and a calculator

The big question is why hasn't it been a standard feature for years now? And I mean a fully dynamic RE-focusing "H" facility that automatically adjust to the new Hyperfocal Distance each time that aperture is changed.

Instead of something useful like that..... I have cameras that use their in-built processing power to remember my dog's birthday..... (and NO, I am NOT kidding!) :-(
