I shall probably be adding an ultra wide to my lenses fairly shortly: possibly the Samyang 8mm, but am also looking at other options, such as a non-cat telephoto - and may eventually consider redeploying some of my existing Nikon and Leica lenses via adapters - but am minded to wait for newer adapters with full autofocus such as the rumoured new Metabones series.

Was wondering what other third-party options people have used, both by way of lenses and adapters.

What was your good or bad experience with these? Were the results what you wanted?

I doubt any adapter will give any kind of autofocus.

The non-fuji lenses I own and use on my XE1 are...

1) Rokinon 8mm fisheye. Same as the Samyang and Bower. Solid build, sharp, excellent value.

2) Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5. Small, affordable, excellent IQ, even in corners

3) Nikon 50mm f/1.8 E lens. Sharp but bokeh can be harsh but easy to smooth with a slight guassian blur - see this link for example . Very inexpensive, about $70

4) Tamron 90mm f/2.5 adaptall macro lens, 1:2 mag. Sharp, easy to fine adjust focus, relatively small., and superb bokeh. Great for closeups and all portraits.

Sometimes I think that this camera is made for use lenses from other manufacturers. Maybe lens of a distant past remained in a drawer waiting for years and years to get out of an analog past to be reused. I see many users who get fabulous results with lenses of all kinds. The choice is really endless objectively considering the short distance between the connection of the lens and the sensor cameras that allows you to adapt almost any optics with thick adapters.

I used two adapters in cascade (!!!) (from mamya 6x4, 5 to nikon and from nikon to fuji camera) with the old telephoto lenses of my mamiya a 150mm and a 210mm. I obteined good results, not excellent but good. I think the zoom 55/200 is better and optimized for the sensor Xtrans.

At the end, I use 18, 35 and 65 original Fuji and I am very happy. Anyway, the Xpro is a camera that seems to come from a imaginary past/future and enable you to do the magic. IMO the best thing is just try anything, read what other users say and especially evaluate the photos, the end result in their overall quality.

Your question allows infinite answers because the lenses to use on Xpro are also infinite.

Cheers!

Contax g 28 F2.8 ,45 F2 and 90mm F2.8 lenses on a Fotodiox adapter.

Very very sharp, wonderful colours and microcontrast. The difference hits you straight away.

Nikon 105mm F2.5 is also super sharp and great colours. Similar to the Zeiss 90mm but with better depth of field.

It takes a little bit to manually focus with the XE1. Its easy as pie on a Nex 6 with its wonderful focus peaking. It takes no time to use that. XE1 really needs a proper focus peaking system at least as good as Nex 6 to be practical. Otherwise you can end up with some out of focus images.

If someone makes a good AF adapter for X mount it would be useful. There is one for Nex mount and I believe it is ok and still being refined.

Greg.

Oly 100mm 2.8, the Tiny Tele. Before I got the 55-200 it was a great small long lens option. And still is for when I don't want the size of the 55-200.

And a Oly 28mm 2.8 with a Kipon tilt adapter for a small tilt option to play with.

Probably my most used non-fuji is my 105mm Nikkor F:2.5

Then there's my Sigma 70-300mm zoom

Then the 28-80 Super Takumar

And I occasionally use a 50mm Nikkor f:1.8 and rarely a 28mm Nikkor f:2.8.

Given enough money I'd probably go for the full set of Fuji zooms and lose my present zooms and the 28mm.

My current Fujis are the 35mm & 18mm.

CV 15mm f4.5 II.

CV 35mm f1.4 (not as tack sharp as XF 35mm f1.4, just the MF make me feel great)

Leica 35mm f2 summicron (great for value and images are keeper just in case i have pletty of money to upgrade to any Leica M model)

feel free to browse my blog for some photos for ref if interested .

Haha, this is just like my bog-standard Oly 50/1.8, stuck in a box for 29 years. What a surprise that was when I stuck it on my X-E1, it's a cracking lens, yet it wouldn't fetch £30 on the market. That really make me grin :D

I don't have an x-pro-1 yet. but one is coming. On the XE-1 I use a Nkkor 55mm macro with superb results and just got in a FD-FX converter to play around with some old Canon stuff I have.

Planning on getting either a FD or Nikkor 100-105 MM macro in the near future.

My No. 1 favorite clearly is the Samyang 8mm. Great value and very good IQ:

.

No. 2 is the Olympus OM Zuiko 100mm f2.8. A good quality and fairly compact tele lens with good IQ:

http://www.fujixfiles.blogspot.com/2012/07/fuji-x-pro-1-and-olympus-om-zuiko-lenses.html

.

And No. 3 is the Canon EF 85mm f1.8. The lens is a great portrait lens for the Fuji X-Cameras. It is fairly compact and has great IQ and bokeh, but the lack of an aperture dial is clearly a draw back if you need to stop down. But there is a hack for that, too:

Thanks guys; that's a rather interesting and diverse set of lenses people are using.

I'm intrigued to know which makes of adapters you're all using: I've been tempted by both the Novoflex and Metabones units, but so far have not made any decisions. Any preferences here? And if so, why?

the adapter itself makes little difference as it is just a spacer. Ideally, all we want is a good snug fit, not loose slop. For my Voigtlander I use a adapter from Rainbow Imagaing, costs $11 and is perfect. i also have a tamron adaptall adapter from Rainbow Imaging which coss $21 and is perfect. Finally, I have a Fotodiox adapter for Nikon G anf F lenses which has an Aperture ring for my Nikon G lenses, and that cost under $40 on Amazon, the Rianbow Imaging adapters is from eBay.

so you do not need to spend a lot for an adapter. But there are many choices and it can e confusing so perhaps if unsure about a brand this forum is a good place to ask before buying. In general there are few complaints here about poor adapters.

I bought several, fotodiox rainbowimaging, kipon, and no name from 50 to 8 €

Pleased with all of them, did not find a relationship between quality and price they are all ok if not perfect (might have a minute 0.5mm play on the XF bayonet or might be a bit too tighten when new due to the paint, without any consequence on reliability and functionning)

I bought two adapters from Amazon. No maker's name on either. The Nikon mount one seems to be exactly the right thickness. I can use all my Nikkors and my two long zooms and get an accurate infinity focus.

The Pentax one is a fraction too shallow. with my Takumar 55mm prime I have to set the ring to somewhere around the 50' (15m) mark for infinity focus. With my 28-80 zoom 'infinity' is somewhere between 15' (5m) and 50' (15m) depending on the focal length. Not really a problem, but it niggles a bit.

I have CV 12, 15, 21, 25, 35, Canon Serenar 28/3.5 and Nikkor 50/2. All these, being small and light and optically excellent, I use on one of my two X-E1 bodies. I also use a Leica 90/2.8 jointly with the Fujinon 60/2.4 for portraits.

I haven't tried any cheap adapters and went straight to the Novoflex (Nikon G-) Adapter. It works very well and is extremely well fabricated. Very precise German manufacturing... As long as I can afford it, I'm happy to pay the extra cost. I heard some of the no-name adapters do have some play, not sure how big of an issue that is. Probably there's some manufacturing variation there and simply not all are as precise as we would like them to be?

Lens-wise, I use the Nikkor 24mm f/2.8, Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 and Nikkor 135mm. From a colour-rendering perspective, they are great. In terms of sharpness, the Fuijinons are unbeatable, imho.

Since I have all the Fuji primes released so far- the 14, 18, 35 and 60 macro the only thing missing is the occasional need for longer reach. I've been playing with two Canon FD teles- the 85 F1.8 and the 135 F2.8. Both lenses are small, lightweight and sharp and work well with the Kipon FD to FX adapter.
