No talk about the new AA powered Pentax K50 yet?

Any idea how Big or Small compare to the smallish Canon SL1/100d DLSR?

According to the leaked specs:
  • Pentax K-50: 129 × 96.5 × 70 mm
To put this into perspective:
  • Canon SL1: 117 x 91 x 69 mm
  • Pentax K-30: 130 x 97 x 71 mm
  • Pentax K-r: 125 x 97 x 68 mm
  • Pentax K-5: 131 x 97 x 73 mm
Apparently, Pentax K-50 is slightly bigger than SL1 and K-r, about the same as K-30, smaller than K-5.

Thank you. Its more or less like a newer version of K-R then. I'm looking forward to see what new feature / improvements Pentax has for us.

This would indicate a simplification of the Pentax lineup, making the venerable and excellent 16mp sensor the upper entry level, making a 16mp but lower spec version possible as a base model to compete with Canon.
That would seem to me a perfect way of placing the 24mp sensor in a higher spec body.
As for FF.......do we really need to go there again!!!!!
The Q7 rumour also makes great sense and a greatway to upgrade yr Q sing same lenses to better IQ sensor.
One thinks there is some bigger news in the near future second half of this year.......the rationalization to the K50 makes sense to a smaller kr style body and its best to view these announcements in context with what's coming rather than viewing it as Pentax next top model.

I don't think its in direct competition with the SL1 in size or placement
Agreed. It is slightly bigger, with pentaprism, weather sealing, two control wheels and so on, thus places it over SL1. Perhaps K-500 if it ever comes might hit on SL1, but definitely not K-50.

The core of K-50 is essentially what we have in K-5 and K-30: all three use slight variations of the same 16MP sensor, 100% coverage pentaprism viewfinder, weather sealing, and two control wheels. They are very similar cameras and for all practical purposes produce identical image quality with very similar handling.

In contrast, K-r had 12MP sensor, pentamirror viewfinder with less coverage, no weather sealing and a single control wheel. A very different camera.

So we should look at K-50 as simplified K-5, not an upgrade to K-r.

K-r replacement is still missing. Perhaps there will be K-500 or something?

There is still one important difference between the K-5 and K-30 (50?). The shutter mechanism is separated from the mirror mechanism only at the K-5. This explains why the K-5 is quiet, has the mirror lock option and in the LV doesn’t move the mirror twice. Simply, the shutter mechanism at the K-5 is “professional”.

For me the size difference is not worth it, i would buy a K30 or K50 because it's a better spec camera (WR, 2 dials and viewfinder ).

Thanks, so its just slightly bigger than Canon 700d. Can you do the same photo with the tiny canon SL1 for comparison?

I think we should see some announcement about K-50 and K-500 soon. PForums have already created sub-forums for K-50 and K-500. That means they must have got specs, images etc and must be waiting for Pentax to officially announce it.

True, Pentax Forums has both K-50 and K-500 on the list of K-mount DSLRs!

No specs or product images at this point, but "catalog" placeholders are there.
