I got my 7D a couple months ago about and wow what a difference it makes. The first picture was shot with my old sony and the last two with the 7D and 85mm 1.8. I still have a lot of learning to go but I am pleased with the results so far.

Postman,

Nice shots. Attach a large aperture lens to the 7D and you have a great combination for challenging situations like sports in low light (dimly lit high school stadia and gyms). In these situations I like to shoot at f2.8 and high iso (1600 or 3200 is usually good enough to stop action), then let my raw processor work on the noise.

Regards,

JAH

Thanks Joseph. Yea shooting in gyms are the worst. These gyms were lit pretty good compared to the small 1a school gyms we r used to playing in.

The 7D is an excellent sports camera but this isn't a fair comparison. The 1st was shot at f8, the other 2 at f2. Put an f1.8 lens on your Sony and see the difference. IMHO, most of what you are seeing is explained by the different exposures, maybe caused by the lenses, not the camera body. What lens did you use on the Sony?

BTW, great work on the last two.

Yes you are right Allen. Not a fair comparison because I wasn't using the same lens for both. You are right I would have probably been able to get some decent shots with a good lens on the Sony. I'm just overly impressed with the pictures I'm getting now I have forgotten that I'm comparing apples and oranges with the different lens...lol. But even with the same lens like the 70-300 shooting softball and baseball the quality and keepers are much greater with the 7d. But you are right that I shouldn't in fairness compared these pictures.

So go to shoot sports again with both camera and try to have same settings on both cameras, say f2-3.5 and let's see the difference.
