so some friends of mine just had a new infant. and being the "professional photographer friend" they asked me to take pictures. Most of these were shot in there living room with available light. A could involved a little of camera flash. Most was shot with my Tamron 24-70 vc lens. mostly because my 85mm G doesnt focus close enough for infant photography. I also used the 85mm with an extension tube

Very nice photos that the parents will treasure.

Shooting with available light is likely more comfortable for the infant, but sets a mood on intimacy as well. I like the B/W treatment. Color will distract from the subject.

My only qualm is with the focus point on #3. When one has to choose the subject for focus, I'd prefer it remain on the infant.

There are a lot of "my kids" or "new baby" photos posted online, and to me it's often the IQ combined with obvious emotion of the subject that results in the poster's infatuation with the photographs (which is fine, but as an objective viewer of someone else's child, I don't get much out of it). These images however, are very nice. Not because of the D800 or lens, but because you're obviously talented as a photographer. Congratulations to your friends, and thanks for sharing.

We tried it both ways. personally i like it this way. the parents will choose the one they want
