Although this already has been discussed before, I was considering to change my G2 for a G3.

What you say, does it worth it?

What bothers me is the focus speed, does anyone knows if this "feature" is better on G3? What are (is there is any) negative points of the G3 comparing to G2?

Thanks a lot guys,
Marc

Here's a simple suggestion.....use the "search" function before asking questions that have been asked a thousand times......

Hi there,

I have a G3, and I'm sorely disappointed that the terrific new AiAF Focus system that they have incorporated into the S400 and S50 is NOT to be found on the G3. Therefore focusing is a pain.

But I did not know all this when I bought the thing. But anyhow, aside from a couple of early shots, none of my shots are off focus. Why? Because I get the focus point on the subject first, then frame, and fire.

I'm SURE that the G4 when it comes will have the AiAF. Till then, DON"T BUY a G3.

Marc, I think changing would be a good idea. You're bumping up your zoom to 4x, you're increasing your processor speed, and lowering your power consumption. As far as the focus speed is concerned, from my experience if you can focus lock (lightly press the shutter release until the green focus light comes on) then you'll get a quicker release (obviously). One new feature that Canon's borrowed from their camcorders is the flexi-zone AF/AE. At the press of a button, the focus box turns green, and you can use the thumb pad to move the square wherever you want. Where it ends up is where you'll focus and expose. Hope that helps.

Focus lock works well, unless you are using a flash (420ex), in which case there is still a delay.

I wouldn't. As a previous G1 owner (stolen during a break and enter) and now a G3 owner, I would not recommend upgrading. I just don't see a big enough advantage, even between the G1 and the G3. Sure, it's quicker in processing, but I see NO noticeable gain in focus speed. I'd save your money and stay with the G2. To be quite honest, I think I prefer my G1 over the G3......just my novice opinion.

I'll keep my G2 for a while!

I already have Tele Converter with Conversion Lens adapter to G2.

And if I change to G3, probably I'll need to buy a new conversion and tele converter lens. Am I right?

Thanks for typing...

Having owned the G3 for the last few months, I would say without a doubt, that I would keep my G2 if I were you. I love this camera, but as others have mentioned, the next generation is probably worth the wait. If you did not own a camera, I would suggest to jump aboard and start enjoying, but you have a more than capable camera, which you can take superb pictures with for now...........
