Does this say "Natural" to you?

Greetings, I'll be out shooting for the Natural challenge on Panachallenge.com this weekend and would like a few opinions before I embark. I shot the photo below a few weeks ago and thus cannot use it for the current challenge. (I figure a lot of people will enter photos of flowers anyway, so I'll probably shoot a totally different subject.)

I have seen mention of the Panny's not processing reds well. I think the color looks fine though. Please offer your comments on this and any other aspect of the photo.

Thanks in advance!

Impossible to say without seeing the "original", seems a bit too vibrant. Having said that it looks good :)
On the processed photo, I adjusted Recovery, Contrast, and Clarity (but not vibrance) in Adobe Camera RAW. I didn't think of posting the original! Here it is.

Original jpg, SOOC (except resized).

By original I meant the flower itself :)

Try avoiding "Clarity" and instead, in Lighrroom, increasing "Blackness" (drag "Black" slider to the left) until the shadows are well and truely blocked, then open up the shadows with the "Shadow" slider (drag carefully to the left). You get less artifacts and the colours don't get as oversaturated (it's easy to go over the top with clarity beause we get fascinated bt the "pop")

It looks very good on my monitor. Most cameras seem to clip the red channel with red flowers, which makes them look very artificial. It's hard to say if it's a faithful rendition of the real thing, however.

Natural, of course it is, it's out of a FZ50 so it must be.

To be honest: No, unfortunately it doesn't. The theme would allow you to photograph almost everything. But unless you are from the Netherlands, where would you see tulips in a natural environment? I understand the challenge theme in a way that I am looking for something that grows "naturally", not a cultivated garden flower.

Sorry Mrsawyer, back to beginning, just 4 days left! ;-)

Hi Una,

I suppose that is one way of interpreting "natural". My inquiry about the photo was primarily to get feedback on how the the camera handled processing color red, and secondarily, how the photo turned out photographically. This photo was taken to early (March) to be in the Panachallenge. Photos for the challenge must be taken from May 6th to May 30th.

Anyway, thanks for your perspective!

Actually: "The genus's native range extends from as far west as Southern Europe, Anatolia (Turkey), Israel, Palestine, North Africa, and Iran to the Northwest of China. The tulip's center of diversity is in the Pamir, Hindu Kush, and Tien Shan mountains"

Well, the "Natural" challenge is over on Panachallenge.com. As I mentioned earlier, I decided to avoid shooting a flower because I figured there'd be lots of them entered. Turns out there were LOTS of birds and lots of ducks/geese in particular. This is what I entered. It didn't do well in the voting. One person said I should have removed the stick, but I thought it broke the monotony and added to the "natural" look of the photo. Any thoughts on this, anyone?

To me the appeal of the photo is the fuzzy feathers of the bird and it isn't as prominent as it would be if you cropped away more of the background. But I'm not expert.

Thanks for your input. What about removing the stick, yay or nay?

My suggestion was to crop out most of the background so the stick would go as part of that.
