I have money for either the

SONY VCL-HGD0758 Wide Angle Conversion Lens
or
The Promaster 5750dx with module flash..

from experience does anyone know if the wide angle lense will block the built in flash leaving darkspots? Which would you get first?

Personally, I'd go for the lens first, but I'm a wide angle nut--and miss my 35mm's 19mm and 24mm wide angle lenses when I go digitaling with the 717.

However, the conversion lens will certainly block much of the camera's built-in flash on any "717-flash 0758 wide angle" shots you take forcing you to shoot available light or use some type of external lighting or add-on flash.

I've got both and certainly use the flash more often. You could sometimes compensate for the wide angle by backing up, but the options to compensate for the internal flash are limited and marginally effective. Nothing like a bounce flash with the small fill flash on the 5750.

Sony has a new flash comming out that is going to be very good compared to the 1000. Get the .7x lens. you will really like. By then the new Sony flash will be hitting the street.

That's not true.

The Sony F707 and F717 models both take standard 58mm threaded filters. Both Sony and third party wide angle adapters and telephoto lens extenders are easily available as well.
