I am looking for a very small and lightweight head. i don't need it to support much weight (1.5 lbs max), but i need it to be able to pan easily. i would think a very small ball head with a separate knob for panning adjustment would be the lightest, kind of like the joby X ballhead, but i imagine that there is a lighter version out there.

thanks!

I have one Manfrotto 482 micro ball head mounted on my Manfrotto tabletop tripod legs. I believe that ball head was replaced by a newer model, 492LCD.

Although you can pan all 360 degrees, you cannot do it if the ball is locked. The lock mechanism is the same for the ball head and the head rotation. It looks the newer model has the same feature.

This ball head is small, light weight, secure and reliable. I have used it for many years - actually for many of my travels my single tripod (and of course the ball head) is this one.

Best regards,

The problem with that head is that you can't pan 360 with the ball locked. I'm looking for something that will allow the head to pan 360 with the ball portion locked.
