Well, this may not be a new question, however just want to find out the best dslr for me... i am looking for a dslr which suits for my requirements of photography for wildlife, nature and people... and i look this as more than hobby... just want to be professional...

After good amount of research, i narrow down my choices to followings:

1. Nikon D7100
2. Nikon D5200
2. Canon EOS 7D
3. Canon EOS 700D (Rebel T5i)

Any thought ? Which will be better ? I know lenses are as much important as camera, however here my thought is to get good SLR first, lenses will be purchased later...

Let me know if you have other camera in mind which very well suits to my requirement...

Thanks in advance..

Any and all dslr cameras built in the last 2/3 years will take fantastic photos, none is better or worse than any other. All, yes all brands will have more than sufficient upgrade paths to keep you happy for as long as you wish.

However, cameras are built in different styles with different control button positions and different menu styles. It is very important for you to buy the one you like handling, once you have it, take photos like crazy and start asking questions, that way you learn fast. I personally prefer Pentax, but if a Nikon - Canon - Sony - etc. came along that handled as good as a Pentax K5 - K30 etc I would be happy with that also. Just remember, you are spending your money and you will be using it.

Don`t fall into the trap that more money spent = better photos. Entry level cameras take superb pictures, if you spend extra cash you buy better camera controls, not better pictures.

Also don`t be swayed by people insisting one make is better than any other. They are all capable of taking fantastic pictures, end of story.

Have lots of fun and post your photos. I have been taking and selling photos for many years, if you have as much pleasure as I have you will be well satisfied.

I was prepared to write a response, but Richard said everything I wanted to say. You are agonizing over irrelevant factors. The camera YOU like is the choice you should make, whether it is because of ergonomics, or just 'cause you like the sound of the name. They will all be more capable that you are at the start, and they are all capable of growing to any level of professional achievement.

Relax.

Well, i checked all those 4 cameras and i find all of them as good w.r.t. handling... just curious about the one which will be useful in long term... Any thought ?

All of them, Sony - Canon - Pentax - Nikon, I never see any comments that long term one of them will let me down or will be less useful. Heck I let my assistant use an old Pentax K100d and the work that girl does is amazing.

One word of advice, do not limit yourself to the cameras you mention, you owe it to yourself to look at and handle as many cameras as possible. Remember one of the worlds top fashion photographers for Vogue and Harpers Bazaar uses Pentax.

I am an amateur only but here is my advice to be taken with a grain of salt.

'' wildlife, nature '' While all of those will be able to take good photos, those two words stick out. For fast shooting that you will need for wildlife and nature and also better weather sealing for outdoors, the D7100, Canon 7D level cameras will be better (same level as Pentax K5-II).

These will also have larger and brighter viewfinders more appropriate for framing shots and easier to frame with.

You say you want to get into photography more than just a hobby, these cameras also allow more options for commanding flash photography from the camera.

Bear in mind if you want professional quality, you can also, to keep in budget, look for a used Canon 5DII or Nikon D700, which would be better for low light shooting in churches for weddings etc, if you decide to shoot such subjects.

So:

- if not doing things like weddings, mainly what you mentioned and restricting to those you mentioned, either the Canon 7D or Nikon D7100.

- if you will also be doing weddings etc, try to get a great condition used Canon 5D II or Nikon D700. But the D7100 and 7D will probably be more suited to wildlife and nature.

- also look at the lenses available in each brand and if you are into wildlife, especially the telephotos available and their prices, telephoto primes and telephoto zooms.

Lenses are important and are what bring the light onto the sensor. So take care is choosing. You are also buying into a 'system' which supports your camera choice.

Best of luck.

Any one of them -- and competing models from Sony and Pentax -- will be useful in the long run. The questions you're asking are so general that the answer will always be "any one of them" because all the major manufacturers make good gear. Until you develop enough knowledge and experience to understand the very minor differences among the various models, you can safely make your decision based on purely practical differences: cost, availability to you, size, weight, utterly subjective preferences (i. e., you think one camera is really pretty). You really can just go buy a camera and start taking pictures.

Ah, another Canikon choice. The marketing machine succeeds again!

Well, i understand that we cant get everything with one camera, so considering photography for wildlife and nature only...

btw, in india, i dont see much support from lympus, Panasonic or Pentax camera. Here canon and nikon has good support. So in future, it will be good to have goos support when we make good investment in camera...

I think nikon D5200 and Canon EOS 700D (Rebel T5i) are budget camera, where as Nikon 7100 and canon 7D are bit high end... considering review and discussion on many forum, i understand that mid-range camera can do better job if we use with right lenses... isnt it ? In this case, i belive Canon 700D or nikon 5200 will work for me..

I am buying camera for long term and dont have plan to change for next 5-6 years, so only my concern is that in future i should not be limited by the options available in the camera which i am going to buy now...
